I'm thinking that Alaskans are more like Coloradans than Texans, i.e. independent and quasi-libertarian. Any candidate too far in their opinion toward social conservatism is going to be viewed negatively.

Some even claim they are socialists because of the resource dividend they receive.

Alaska is more like West Virginia than either of those two.

Its defining characteristic is a massive class of white welfare recipients.
