~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~

~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~

On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack.

Hey there, Kathy.

WOW!! You got a lot more snow since what you showed me last night! I think it’s very safe to say your pipes will be ok when the temps drop again later this week.
Your plow guy better show up before you have to head out tomorrow. You won’t get out of the driveway let alone up the street.

We got another inch and a half of rain today so we’re in pretty good shape now. Still have tomorrow to go through before this front is supposed to move on.

As the Truman regime unfolds, the country is facing housing shortages, inflation, labor unrest and unemployment. Many of the boys who won the war, along with their families, are struggling to cope. Don't forget them.

Good evening, Janey...((HUGS))...I love the graphic, and it is so, so true.

Has your home weather improved? No more smoke? Do you still have snow?

Here's another one by that guy that will do that to them too.   (I know you probably have more taste than to post this one, Fiji Hill, but I think it does highlight a significant historical reaction of many Americans, right after the announcement and FDR's speech.)

(Please don't anybody here be offended.   I love the Japanese, and wish them all the best.)

Hey there, radu!

Hope you got the rain you’ve been wanting. I noticed that our temperature has been similar again. But of course, I didn’t get the rain part. LOL!

Howdy, luvie.

We’ve gotten some good rainfall this week and still have tomorrow and Friday with more. It looks like the heaviest rain will stay north of us tomorrow and I don’t have a problem with that.

I’ve been watching the back end of this wet “train” that’s been running over us because it’s over there by you. It looks like you should be getting a little something now but then again, the radar could be lying. It happens. Or the rain could be evaporating before it hits the ground.
I do hope you’re getting something because you need it.

20” on the deck railing, but a walk to the mailbox is more than knee deep. No plow guy yet, but they have to be VERY busy!

But if he doesn’t make it by 9a...I am going nowhere tomorrow. There is no way I can dig out. But...my deck is all shoveled!

Oh, I haven’t been outside since I fed the kitties, so I guess I should go peek. It sure would help to have some, for sure!

Glad you’ve gotten some, too. It’ll help a lot come spring when it’s time for all your flowering trees start to bloom. They’ll have a headstart!
