My first inclination is exactly what you observed. I’d go
hungry rather than eat some of that stuff (and that’s
actually a compliment considering the texture and taste).

I will say that I have had a few of the meatless items that
don’t seem like you’re in some sort of nightmare, and they
forced you to eat it over your objections, then a spare
arm or foot grows off the side of your chest.

If they can come up with something that is tasty on its own,
I would buy it. I’m not about to eat something tasting like
it’s 23 steps down from dog food, just to save the planet.
It needs to be nutritious also.

They have. My wife's vegetarian and buys a brand of British-made meatless "burger" and "chicken" patties that are mushroom based. I love meat and fish and eat both often but I have to say that the fake meat my wife buys is delicious. The brand is Quorn.
