Smile! TSA has yet another boondoggle to make traveling more painful
New York Post ^ | December 8, 2022 | James Bovard

Posted on 12/08/2022 5:14:10 PM PST by nickcarraway

Why would any law-abiding American balk at permitting the feds to vacuum up his biometric data at the airport? The Transportation Security Administration is running a pilot program in which travelers stand in photo kiosks that compare their faces with a federal database of photos from passport applications, driver’s licenses, and other sources. TSA promises its new airport regime, which could vastly expand next year, will respect Americans’ privacy.

If you believe that, I can sell you a bridge in Brooklyn really cheap.

TSA has long been one of the most intrusive and inept federal agencies. For 20 years, every TSA boondoggle has been shielded by a bodyguard of bureaucratic lies.

I.Do.Not.Fly.

I was reading some comments on another article about flying & quite a few were saying they no longer fly, but drive, even if it takes days. Less stress and their baggage arrives with them.

My brother was flying to a satellite office several states away, but has stopped. By the time he went to the airport, dealt with all the hassle, flights got delayed (more than once), then had to get a vehicle upon landing, etc. - he could drive, take bathroom/snack breaks whenever he wanted, and arrive in the same time or slightly less than flying. He drives now rather than flying.

“will respect Americans’ privacy.”

Yep. Right.

I don’t think Americans are that stupid to believe this but I’m not sure any more.

“TSA has long been one of the most intrusive and inept federal agencies.”

Speaking of Brooklyn bridges to sell, you mean there isn’t a fed agency that is inept?

Here comes your new and improved and regular driver’s license and photo ID card.

Bend over and enjoy it.

The federal REAL ID Act places new rules on which forms of identification may be used to board flights within the United States (U.S.) and enter secure federal facilities, such as military bases, federal courthouses, and other federal facilities. A California issued REAL ID driver’s license or identification card meets these new requirements and is marked with a golden bear and star.

Applying for a REAL ID requires proof of identity, proof of California residency, and a trip to DMV. You will be asked to provide your Social Security number on your REAL ID application (exceptions may apply).

Individuals applying for or renewing an AB 60 driver’s license are not eligible to receive a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card.

Takes 14 hours to fly from Redding, Ca. to LAX, first you have to go to Sacramento, then to SFO, then finally you get to LAX, get a taxi to the front of the house takes another 45 minutes to an hour.

I can make the drive in 12 hours easy with lunch break, letting the dogs out for a drink and potty, and I get to bring my boys and girls with me.

Driving lets me get me and my dogs to the front yard in 12 hours straight up, why would I bother to fly and have some PERVERT grope both me and my dogs?

Yup! I think when you break down certain trips, the time difference, if any, just isn’t worth flying. To drive, you can bring pets, keep luggage with you, you’re in control of breaks, food .... less stress, no unpleasant people to deal with .... now you’ve even got pilots/flight attendants dropping dead on flights or just after (huge delays when that happens!).

Some people HAVE to fly (work, international travel, etc.), but I personally hate flying anyway & don’t have to, so I’m driving - not going anywhere I can’t drive.

Just another stab-in-the-back of freedom by a republican president... Bush...

Bush even outdid Nixon when it came to forging shackles around our necks...

We had more freedoms stripped away by these two than by Clinton and Obama...

I don’t expect tsa’s intrusiveness to remain in tsa. It will be, or already has been, expanded to other agencies.

Imagine if this is merged with San fransicko’s robot machine gun “cops”

It won’t be long before they try to make us do this to drive across state lines - or into major cities.

China has been photo-scanning and fingerprinting entrants at their airports for a while.
