The great divorce: GOP to launch investigations into big business
NY Post ^ | December 11, 2022 | Lydia Moynihan

The party will be over for big businesses that push “woke” agendas once the Grand Old Party takes over the House next month, insiders told The Post.

Long viewed as the party of big business, fed-up Republicans will now lead committees and have subpoena power as they seek to punish investment firms that prioritize the environment over fossil fuels, as well as trying to rein in China’s outsized influence on the US economy, according to several sources interviewed by The Post.

“There is frustration with specific issues like woke capitalism but it’s also the case that the GOP sees Wall Street interests and big business interests generally aligned against Main Street . . . and the GOP wants to identify itself with the small business community,” James Lucier, managing director of Washington-based policy research firm Capital Alpha, told The Post.

Republicans, who gained a majority in the House for the first time since 2016, are also expected to look at the impact of free trade and outsourcing jobs on local communities, China’s monopoly on many rare earth minerals, and the Chinese companies that are listed on U.S. stock exchanges, according to insiders.

But the main flashpoint is expected to be over ESG. Republicans are furious over the hypocrisy of massive investment firms like BlackRock doing business with Chinese companies that flout environmental concerns even as they push for US companies to embrace net-zero carb emissions – at the expense of shareholders.

Republican-controlled states have already laid down the blueprint for targeting firms that tout ESG. Earlier in the month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pulled $2 billion in state pension funds from BlackRock. That was followed by an activist investor calling for BlackRock CEO Larry Fink to step down.

GOP is the scorned lover of Big Business. The GOP might actually do something since they’ve already lost the support of many businesses.

The great divorce: GOP to launch investigations into big business, while totally ignoring the illegals pouring across our border in the millions.

Very little to nothing will happen.
Parasite politicians will pontificate and posture,
and great corporations will give permission to BE
criticized and investigated — up to a clearly
defined point, only — as a form of cover and
window dressing to give the lumperproletariat,
you, the IMPRESSION that “Something Is Being Done,”
even as the well-bribed pols get bonuses to “guide”
the “Investigations” along proscribed lines.

Why is this coming about now?

It took longer for the Left to infiltrate and dominate fields outside of the Liberal arts, but they have, and beyond indoctrinating the college graduates going into many “soft” professions, thay have now achieved the same advantages in ALL fields that draw their top recruits from college grads. From them many businesses and industries have tons of leading executives where their meager business experience is dwarfed by the Leftist indoctrination they were trained with in college, and they bring the fruits of that indoctrination with them. EVERY business and industry now has executives who were taught that every avenue of life should be made part of the Leftist zeitgeist.

It’s like they are perpetually 15-20 years behind the curve.

Perhaps a bit too late.

“A ruling in late November by the U.S. Department of Labor reversed Trump-era rules which required retirement plan fiduciaries to use only financial analysis when deciding which investments to include in 401k plans”

This divorce is long overdue. To be honest, there are lots of ignorant Democrats who still believe their own party is for the citizen-little guy. But they have been sold out for globalism.

They have lost the support of many Americans because of their lackluster standards.

How about closing the border.

One would think that would be simple, add the funds in a bill and pass it.

The Republicans being the party of big business is a long outdated perception perpetuated by Hollywood.

Reality is that MOST of your big American and international oligarchs are Democrats: Bezos, Gates, Buffet, Musk (historically)...

Why is this so? It is the Democrats that are the party of big government and today the way the super rich get richer is through government corporate collision. Think laws to mandate new refrigerants, vaccines, insurance, an Epipen... Huge subsidies for so called environmental programs which really just flow billions into the pockets of the big corporations, subsidies for agra which really goes to big agra (not the small family farm), or even carbon offsets where folks get a cut of all the money moved around. Massive subsidies for education...

If you’re big pharma, Trump was the enemy: https://www.npr.org/2020/09/13/912545090/trump-signs-new-executive-order-on-prescription-drug-prices

And Biden is your ally: https://www.policymed.com/2021/10/biden-administration-rescinds-trump-administration-insulin-pricing-rule.html

It’s the Democrats today that are 100% on board when it comes to monopolies and play nice with Meta/Zuckerberg...

Don’t hold your breath. GOP’ers love to talk big and make promises before the big day, just like the midterms. Evidence? Cornyn, amnesty and the Chamber of Commerce. He’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Tom Cotton, senator from Arkansas, had this exchange with Kroger executives:

The Senator was being serious, but in reality it’s quite funny that at least one Republican outside of Trump gets it.

“I’m sorry that’s happening to you. Best of luck.”
