MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian authorities have imposed sanctions for five years against some prominent figures of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church who Kiev believes are pro-Russian.

Among them are seven clergymen, including Metropolitan Antony of Borispol and Brovary, manager of affairs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Panteleimon of Lugansk and Alchevsk, Metropolitan Luka of Zaporozhye and Melitopol, and Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernovtsy and Bukoviny, the Ukrainian media reported.

The Security Service of Ukraine's sanctions lists also include Archbishop Paisiy of Konstantinovsky (vicar of the Gorlovka diocese), Archimandrite Ioann (Prokopenko) of the Zaporozhye diocese, and Archimandrite Alexiy (Fyodorov) of the Kherson diocese.

The sanctions against the clergy envisage the blocking of their assets and withdrawal of capital outside of Ukraine, restrictions on trade operations, etc. They are also deprived of Ukrainian state awards and other awards and the right to buy land plots, privatize state property and intellectual property rights.

The Zeepers and neocons (what’s the diff) will be here shortly to tell you this is fine. Or will they? I suspect most will ignore this fact.

This is how we “defend democracy and freedom” now - by funding the side persecuting the Orthodox Christian Church.

What all has Zelensky done?? He closed down all media outlets opposed to his political party, imprisoned political opponents (the ones who didn’t escape to another country), outlawed political parties opposed to his rule, and more autocratic actions. All descent is forcefully stifled.

How do you describe the current government of Ukraine??

Well - if you ignore some pretty damning evidence that these figures (and quite a few more in the local churches) have been actively supporting Russian troops via intelligence, safe harbor, and even financially.

So... yeah. Treat them like you would treat a business that was committing treason against the nation.

But also understand - when the so-called “Ukrainian Orthodox” split from the Russian Orthodox, it was nothing more than a name change. Bishops still beholden to the Russian patriarchs- and if one does just a little history study, you find that the Russian Orthodox aided and abetted the Soviets in a lot of pretty atrocious ways over the history of the Soviet Union - and still to this day are almost like their own oligarchy (its’ why Putin regularly bows before them with his little prohibitions that make him look almost Christain). He gives just enough to appease these powerful church figures.

When we often talk of Germany and the Nazis - and how certain major churches were complicity - even directly promoting Hitler’s actions (including the genocides)... The Russian Orthodox has been that same player for Russia (and prior - the USSR).

And the “Ukrainian Orthodox” church has been a major player in turmoil in Ukraine - and consistently supportive of the Russian puppet government officials (and presidents) that have come along.

So many folk ignorant of American history. Any of you ever heard of the Anglican Church. A faith controlled by the King and the British state?

What do you think happened to it during our Revolution?

Churches were closed by the government. Their buildings were burned by mobs. Priests arrested or forced out of the country and their property seized. Finally the church was forced to break all ties to Britain and became the independent Episcopal Church.

If you have a sect that has sworn loyalty to your oppressors it cannot continue to function.

Why don’t you call for the closure a Swiss if it all assets of the Catholic Church now? After all, it is headquartered in Rome, and sometimes goals against the wishes of the United States government.

Anti-Christian Bolshevism in Ukraine, supported by Biden and most Reuplicans in the Senate and House.

Nope.

Here is one of many stories from our revolution.

In 1776 the Anglican Christ Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts was forced to close and its organ was seized and melted down for bullets for the Revolutionary Army.

Do you think it was wrong for patriots to have done that?

Nope. All my ancestors were over here long before Russia even existed.

“Churches were closed by the government.”

Churches continues to worship during the American Revolution. All priests had been ordained in England as there were no bishops and some did return to England. Many stayed. Those whose congregations were loyal to the Revolution just scratched out all references to the monarchy in the Book of Common Prayer. Lay leaders read prayer services provided in the prayer book in churches without clergy. George Washington was such a lay leader in his parish. The new church, the Episcopal Church, wrote their Constitution in Philadelphia during the same time period the US Constitution was being written in Freedom Hall. Paul Revere was a member of the Old North Church in Boston and Patrick Henry gave his “give me freedom or give me death” proclamation from an Episcopal church in Richmond.

“Those whose congregations were loyal to the Revolution just scratched out all references to the monarchy in the Book of Common Prayer”

Sure, but many did not support the Revolution. And their freedom of speech and worship was far from respected.

The churches were forced to close. The priests arrested or forced into exile.

Baloney. Those monks in those churches, down in the basement with their shortwaves. They reporting whether the lights are off or on? Or you think with their secret commando training they are out there identifying weapons, mapping nazi positions etc? They are more watched by SBU than anyone else.

It’s just Ukrainian bigotry on the order of cancelling the Nutcracker, pulling Russian dressing off the shelf, burning Tolstoy books. Just idiotic Uke drama.
