Years ago, I read General Groves’ book, “Now It Can Be Told.” Groves made a pretty convincing case that Oppenheimer had absolutely been the right man for the job. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. In three years, he led the development of not one but two different working atom bomb designs. That’s pretty freaking amazing, when the notion of a large-scale chain reaction atomic explosive weapon was theoretical not something that actually was even close to existing. He got the job done, and the bombs beat Japan.
But it’s pretty silly to reinstate the security clearance of a guy who’s been dead for nearly 56 years.
It leads the way for others who aren’t dead
On a list of 10,000 important things for the agency to have as goals....I just wouldn’t put this on the list.
They plan on re-instating his voting rights now too.
“Years ago, I read General Groves’ book...”
I am sitting in Leslie Groves Park right now.
