Breitbart ^ | 12/23/2022 | Ashley Oliver

Posted on 12/23/2022 2:15:20 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

More than half of the members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted remotely Friday for the $1.7 trillion government spending bill, claiming in proxy voting letters they could not be present to vote because of the “ongoing public health emergency.”

More than 220 members — from both sides of the political aisle — used the proxy voting option to vote for the 4,000-plus page omnibus bill, the final vote of the 117th Congress barring unforeseen circumstances.

“”There are four ways in which you can spend money. You can spend your own money on yourself. When you do that, why then you really watch out what you’re doing, and you try to get the most for your money. Then you can spend your own money on somebody else. For example, I buy a birthday present for someone. Well, then I’m not so careful about the content of the present, but I’m very careful about the cost. Then, I can spend somebody else’s money on myself. And if I spend somebody else’s money on myself, then I’m sure going to have a good lunch! Finally, I can spend somebody else’s money on somebody else. And if I spend somebody else’s money on somebody else, I’m not concerned about how much it is, and I’m not concerned about what I get. And that’s government.””
Milton Friedman

Sure agree with your sentiment, but it seems ironic that the Members abused a provision designed because of fear of Covid 19. Also, they don’t have to show their faces as they vote for a bill that will drastically increase inflation and crush the middle class along with further funding America’s Stasi the FBI and other politicized enforcers.

I wish the sapsuckers had to stay in their districts and do everything this way. No parties, no schmoozing, no Washington DC fever, whatever that sickness is.

I’m going to work by proxy. I am sure if it’s good enough for the FedGov then my boss should be ok. If my boss has an issue, I can have the IRS look into him.

I thought there was no health emergency and thus no need for Title 42 at the border.

This is simply theft by government. Evil people are destroying us and one way is to bankrupt the entire country.

Great post. Milton Friedman definitely had a way of explaining economics so that everyone could understand.

I ran into an interview with Friedman from 1971 on YouTube the other day. I was surprised that YouTube allowed it and doubly surprised when it automatically came up after another video I was watching.

They take their votes so seriously they can’t be bothered to show up— they just mail it in. Says it all about our Parliament of Whores.

I don't even know why they bother to have a vote on these things anymore. 4000+ pages that no one reads and a super-majority made up of republicans who are really democrats and democrats who are really communists, what's the point?

He sure did! loved how he would “teach” Phil Donahue by posing questions to him... and his “pencil analogy” is still a classic today ...
