"Duke Energy: Alert! The extremely low temperatures & high energy demand continue to place an unusual strain on the energy grid. Please consider powering down all nonessential electric devices and delaying unnecessary energy use for the next 24-48 hours to help avoid rotating outages in the early morning hours tomorrow and Monday. We understand this is a difficult ask given both the holidays and the cold temps and we are grateful for your efforts. I replied and told them "Screw off. Build more coal-fired generating plants."
So far I’ve had no trouble here in SW Arkansas. The natural gas is still flowing, the electricity is still on and so is the water. Several years ago a large coal fired electric plant was built a few miles away. Hasn’t failed to “demand” yet. Even during the blizzard a couple of years ago things stayed on while across the state line in Texas they were wiping out.
Or nuke plants.
Please build many more Nukes.
