Idaho 'killer' is accused of scaring female staff at brewery, as its revealed FBI tracked his Hyundai across US for four days before nailing him

Police said they began tracking and surveilling Kohberger around Christmas and stayed on him for four days when they spotted the white Hyundai Elantra they believed was connected to the murders.

Investigators said Kohberger drove cross-country in the car to his parents home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania.

His car was confirmed to be at the Pennsylvania home, and officials worked quickly to obtain a warrant for his arrest, law enforcement sources told CNN.

Along with the surprised bar owner, students who attended Washington State University with Kohberger said they were shocked to learn that the quiet man in their classroom was the prime suspect in the brutal slaying.

Friday's arrest is the first major break in the case - with Kohberger asking if 'anyone else was arrested' when he was taken into custody. An extradition hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Kohberger is a registered Libertarian, although does not appear to have had any active social media profiles at the time of his arrest.

During a press conference on Friday authorities confirmed that a white Hyundai Elantra was discovered in the search – with sources saying it was towed from outside Kohberger's home.

Law enforcement sources told CNN that his DNA was discovered at the scene of the crime – with officers managing to track down who owned the car seen in the area of the slayings.

However, Kohberger has no prior arrests, according to public records, so it is unclear how officials got hold of his DNA.

A few things here.

DNA was found, and investigators used commercial dna registry sites to figure out what family he was from.

the car was tracked using the Hyundai Blue Link® Highlights.

Blue Link® telematics platform will offer innovative connectivity, convenience and safety services for Hyundai vehicles

Numerous connectivity and convenience features will be available via feature packaging targeted at distinct telematics user groups

I am guessing the gov is in one of those user groups.

I seem to remember an onstar lawsuit saying if that while people could listen to any conversation inside an equipped car, but that if someone was listening, the emergency service button was disabled and this could put the occupants lives at risk in the event of a crash

I have close friends with two kids at Pullman.

That really must have shocked students there.

It’s good the murderer was caught, but how is potentially a different story.
Genetic tracking and governmental tracking of individuals will be abused.
The Canadians froze the bank accounts for protesting a useless, potentially dangerous vaccine.
How long before our scum use it against us?
The world is shrinking, and not for the better.

Yep. "23 And Me" is the greatest DNA archive ever.

Who knew that you could get Americans to not only volunteer their DNA samples but pay for the service as well?

“Kohberger is a registered Libertarian”

Sure, but what color socks was he wearing?

"so it is unclear how officials got hold of his DNA."

His DNA was left at the crime scene, then from there the DNA/Geneology websites narrow those DNA markers to a family tree. THEN from there you find out WHO in that family has a white Hyundai Elantra registered to them.

BOOM, done.

That's an interesting question to ask when you're being arrested. Either he's trying to imply innocence, or he had accomplices.

My understanding is that if someone in your extended family has ever used a commercial genetic testing service, that's enough of a DNA trail for authorities to zero in on a suspect.

Did he write an essay that was coherent and well-organized, but happened to discuss more than one simple topic so it could be described as a “rambling manifesto”?

Yep.

And that's what happened here.

Still, glad they caught the guy but it seems that DNA archives are here to stay and only growing. I'm not convinced this is a good trend.

If you’re a reporter in a backwater place like Pullman, then who are you going to interview? The dude behind the bar or the hot waitresses?

30 years ago if you were in Pullman you would go to Moscow to go to the bars since the drinking age was 18 and they had good Vodka.

Today if you are in Moscow you would go to Pullman to get your Cannabis products and vapes cause in Moscow you get thrown in Jail for that s#it.

As an aside, I read Ted Kaczynski’s manifesto.

I was worried because the first half made sense.
Luckily, he made a hard turn and I felt better...

My understanding is that the Libertarian Party is generally left-leaning. I believe there is some commotion now as a right-leaning person is trying to gain control, but in general they are pro-abortion, gay rights, etc.

Unfortunately, when most people think of "libertarian" they focus on low taxes, less government, etc. and will assume this guy is a rightwinger.

He might in fact lean right, but he most likely just leans cuckoo.
