that's enough of a DNA trail for authorities to zero in on a suspect.

It's not trial worthy proof, but depending on how close that relative is and how many matching alleles there are.

BOOM, done.

Yup.... they just looked for the common area between two sets of data.

I have a question for a smart freeper who knows way more than I do about this subject. One assumes that the DNA he left behind was blood from a wound he took (perhaps when one of the four fought back although it could be hair or skin under a finger nail etc.) However, if the murders were done with a knife, there no doubt was blood everywhere. When blood from two or more individuals is mixed together, how is it possible to identify the various parties where the blood came from? Or is the technology such that it can be easily separated? This question assumes complete mixing as opposed to areas in the residence where there were separate droplets that were not mixed.

They’ve had to divide those three hundred to also go after Musk, MTG, DeSantis, and even grudge a few to arrest the crypto scammer with the man boobs.

It was pointed out as medsoc was deprived of reporting this from a “bash all republicans” angle.

Just like in Canada where protesting the government was a crime.

Blood testing devices are sometimes based on diluting blood and then counting individual cells.

They might have had to run many DNA tests before finding a blood cell that wasn’t a victim’s.

Now if if was a hair cell, the defendant could claim he hugged a victim days or even months ago at a bar.

I’ve watched all those movies, and then some.
Same for reading many books in the genre.

"Who knew that you could get Americans to not only volunteer their DNA samples but pay for the service as well?"

If it will lead to the arrest of a murderer, they can use my DNA any time. Those four kids were someone's children. I would hope someone's DNA would have led to his arrest, had it been my child. And no one knows if he's killed before. I pray someone spreads his DNA all over whatever prison he finally ends up in.

The linked story is certainly worth reading as the summary here misses several key points. The bar where the suspect is accused of scaring female employees and patrons is located near the family home in PA.

So much info is being leaked out about this guy that his lawyers are sure to be questioning where he could get a fair trial. And we should be concerned about that too, I’m sure almost anyone could be made to look “creepy” and “dangerous” with the right selected quotes and anecdotes. The only relevant things are direct evidence of the crimes, if he seemed creepy to somebody in 2017 or seemed strung out to his classmates, so what? Anyone could fall into those categories without butchering four individuals.

Two other points that were made in the linked story that hasn’t surfaced in this discussion, he was said to be a libertarian and had apparently made anti-rainbow (gay) comments to classmates, but otherwise there are no obvious ties to current politics in any direction. Statements about anti-capitalist or ANTIFA leanings made in other threads appear to be so far speculation rather than backed up by evidence.

This probably isn’t going to get very far off the neutral center line of political relevance and will just play out as another sad tale of a mentally disturbed individual playing God with the lives of relative strangers. If he did at some point express support for anyone in politics, it would be more or less a “so what” moment, every political figure has their share of crazy supporters, it means very little in the grand scheme of things.

"Another Freeper said that was the same thing that some famous serial killer said when he was arrested. So perhaps this “criminal justice” student was following his lead."

Ted Bundy. I saw the reference to him in an article, and thought this guy approached girls, asking them to help him put something in his VW, then drugging then, or knocking them out, and shoving them in his car. Let's hope he doesn't escape custody like Bundy did. That's when he hit a sorority house. He was a law student, and represented himself during his trial. The sorority house hit, and this guy's dorm attack may be why the media is linking them.

They say that individuals who use a knife, and stab in a frenzy, are prone to wounding themselves because the knife gets slick with blood, and your grip slips. He could have dripped blood from his own wound. He could have left sweat, spit, hair, or anything at the scene that could have been tested. Don’t know if he was wearing disposable gloves. Maybe the dummy took them off at the scene, and left them. People aren’t in prison because they’re smart, and DNA is pretty advanced these days. It’s also possible that they have him on closed circuit TV. From what I’ve read, the police have been pretty tight-lipped about everything, which is the way an investigation should be conducted.

I see your people, but I’m sure it never occurred to many people who submitted samples 10 - 20 years ago that their profile would be used liked this. Who knows what new use of the information they’ll think of next and what entities they will share it with.

I know what you mean.

Sure. It is great this guy was nabbed by whatever means were available.

But this is the “Good Use”. What is the “Bad Use”?

One of the things I have learned in life is that almost everything has a duality to it.

That is, a person could use a hammer to build a beautiful coffee table. That’s a “Good Use”. But the same hammer could be used to brutally murder someone. That’s a “Bad Use”.

In the case of a global DNA identifier database, the possible “Bad Uses” fill me with dread. I simply don’t trust my fellow man with any tool that might end up being used as a weapon against me. We just are not trustworthy enough.

Our founders tried to protect us from people with “Bad Uses” in the way they wrote the Constitution, and living under a Constitutional Republic, that worked out pretty well. Now that our status as a “Constitutional Republic” is on unsafe ground, I trust “my fellow man” even less.

The similarity to Bundy is interesting. Maybe even holding him up as a role model? I don't think the other freeper was referring to him though about the “Have you arrested anyone else” quote. I think it may have been John Wayne Gacy??

In the future we will have organized crime families kidnapping people to get DNA samples and set up fake profiles in those commercial databases.

“It couldn’t have been John Gotti who did this, detective … his DNA shows he is a mix of African and Chinese ancestry.”
