In his sleepy Maine hometown, teen-aged Trevor Bickford was just one of the guys.
The Wells High School student won an honorable mention two years ago for his entry in the state’s Scholastic Arts Awards, cited for his submission in the jewelry category. He played on the town football team, winners of the 2018 state title, and spent summers as a groundskeeper at the local golf course in what locals called “The Friendliest Town in Maine.”
“He was chill,” recalled an old friend who worked alongside the accused terrorist at the Old Marsh Country Club. “He was always just quiet and laid back. He never got into fights or anything ... He was never like alone or anything. He had friends.”
The 19-year-old changed the small town narrative in a New York minute on New Year’s Eve: Bickford, months after an abrupt embrace of radical Islam, arrived in Manhattan two hours before midnight as a violent jihadist armed with a machete and intent on murdering police officers, according to authorities.
The slender suspect, just 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, was arraigned last week in his bed at the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward and faces a mandatory lifetime behind bars if convicted. He remains in custody without bail, leaving those who knew Bickford left to ponder exactly what happened.

Drug use is pandemic in Maine. Have to wonder if this “ordinary kid” altered his brain chemistry with drugs and became a terrorist? Perhaps now it can be understood why the Chinese in the 19th century were so outraged when Western powers, primarily Britain, started flooding the country with opium. They knew what mass use did to a population and its culture. It also may be why the Chinese are grinning with revenge as they pour drugs of all sorts into the US.

Obviously he hoped to get his 72 virgins but failed. Now he will have 72 hardened convicts bending him over a barrel seeing if he can make like Ned Beatty in DELIVERANCE going “WEE! WEE! WEE!”

I think you mean epidemic. Pandemic is worldwide, epidemic is within a community or region. I am not certain if epidemic is correct as drug abuse is not really a disease.
That is why Islam is a permanent time bomb, even if many Muslims adopt a popular culture and seem average/normal, there will always be some who become devout believers and truly embrace their religion, leading them to kill and mass murder.
Who or when someone becomes a devout Muslim will naturally be random and unpredictable, until the killing is noticed.
Since I was a kid I have been reading the little puzzling mentions from all over the non-white world of the Muslim neighbor, or Muslim cop, or Muslim whatever, suddenly grabbing his machete or pistol and killing his Christain neighbors.
Young men tell me that there are Muslim missionaries in all the gamer groups and chat rooms. Female Muslims target young men and demand that they become Muslim before continuing to date.

Even back in the 70’s and 80’s drug use was bad in Maine. Drugs were everywhere. Even teachers were dealing and everyone knew it too but noone ever said anything. Evrn cops knew what was going on, but didnt do anything unless they pulled a person over and caught them with it whe. They searhced the vehicle. Everyone knew who was dealing, and im sure the cops knew as well. It was a smallish town and word spreads quic.k
Drugs were pretty rampant in school, and it wasn’t unusual to see kids stoned in classes. I guess most schools are like,that, but in rural Maine, it just seemed pretty prevalent. A friend of mine rode around with a garbage bag full of pot he called zombie pot. Those who smoked it were gonzo until it wore off. I suspect it was laced. Towards the end of the 80’s though drug use seemed to calm down a bit, but before then, it seemed to be everywhere, and Noone cared.
Radical Islam. Is there anything about Islam that isn’t radical?
The 9/11 hijackers boarded their flights in Maine. This kid was radicalized in Maine.
Seems to me the problem is Maine.

Bickford obviously read a true copy of the Holy Quran and followed the directions within it.
As long as that book exists, this type of thing will happen.
He was NOT a "radical Muslim", he was just a normal one doing his duty.
BTW, The Bickford name in New Hampshire and Maine goes back to the early settlers in the 1600s.

Mine are all from NJ.
Some came here in the 1850’s and the rest in 1901.

Islam itself is radical. All of it.
If one speaks of ‘’moderate Islam’’ the question should be asked “If Islam were so peaceful, why the need for ‘’moderation?’’
Wouldn’t that make the argument Islam isn’t peaceful?’’.
There are a lot of companies in ME and NH owned by Bickford descendants.
Those that I have met, all fine people.
