EXCLUSIVE: National Parks Service Denies Gov. Noem’s Request For Mt. Rushmore Fireworks Over ‘Adverse Effect’ On Local Tribes
The Daily Caller ^ | January 12, 2023 | Henry Rodgers

Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem received a letter Thursday from the National Park Service rejecting her request for Independence Day fireworks at Mount Rushmore.

The Daily Caller first obtained the letter, which was sent by Michell Wheatley to Wanda Goodman, who works for the Governor at the South Dakota Department of Tourism. In the letter, Wheatley mentions that local tribes view the fireworks as an “adverse effect” on their traditional cultural views.

“Fireworks continue to be viewed by multiple Tribes as an adverse effect on the traditional cultural landscape,” Wheatley wrote in the letter. “This view was expressed by consulting Tribes in 2020 and has been reaffirmed by Tribal government representatives in subsequent meetings and letters.”

In 2021, Noem sent letters to three members of Congress from her state urging them for their assistance in making sure the fireworks display at Mount Rushmore does not get canceled under President Joe Biden’s administration.

Then, the Caller obtained three letters to the Republican lawmakers from South Dakota, including, Sen. John Thune, Sen. Mike Rounds, and Rep. Dusty Johnson, in which Noem explains the importance of the fireworks display and also details the economic benefits of having the firework display at Mount Rushmore.

Noem told the Caller that she was worried about the display being canceled, as they were under former President Barack Obama’s administration, saying she could use the help of Republican members of Congress from the state to make sure they are not canceled again.

Snakes and sparklers only.

Not "The Good Stuff".

You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

If Kristi Noem caves then she was never White House material. She needs to send a letter to the effect that the initial permit request was merely perfunctory and a courtesy. The show goes on...

This has nothing to do with Indian tribes.

It's retaliation for hosting President Trump's Independence Day Mt. Rushmore rally in 2020.

The House should look into reducing the budget for the Interior Department until this nonsense stops.

I doubt the Navajos are part of this. They are the most patriotic tribe in America, or at least they were in my experience during the Run For The Wall I rode with some years back.

They’re thinking of the ones they see after partaking in Great White Father’s gift of firewater.

I know. I know. Shame on me.

Is Mt. Rushmore on Indian territory? If not, they can stay in their teepees and plug their ears until after the Grand Finale.

It is Federal land, isn’t it. So as dumb as the decision is I am sure she will abide. Otherwise the Feds could argue they are justified in deciding what actions are permitted or forbidden on State land.
