I read years ago that microsoft treats their employees badly. That they wear color coded badges so the full time ones know not to talk to the ‘temp’ workers even though the ‘temp’ workers work 40 hours and more. They were sued for using the ‘temp’ status when it was obvious for they were full time so they would not get benefits.

That’s very common in tech. I knew of a guy that worked at a company that had contractors and full time, and wouldn’t let the contractors eat at the pot lunch with the others.

That was when I decided to never be a contractor at a temp company even if it pays more. You’re considered trash.

There was a lawsuit in 98-99

There was a small settlement, they converted some temps to fte.

Everyone after that got screwed cause they could only work for a few months then there were mandatory breaks in service,

Soon after it became a rotating h1b sweatshop, Then to be fair and inclusive they opened source code and contract offices in china

Microsoft’s culture under Nadella is a complete 180 from life under former CEO Ballmer. Everyone is treated with respect and has a voice. Anyone employed under Ballmer would echo this sentiment.
