Well, Johnny, I have some bad news for you. Silicon smelters will be involved if you want to produce solar panels. They use coal. They use a boatload of electricity. They emit carbon dioxide. HERE is a description of the specs on one they tried to get started in Newport WA.

Silicon smelters have tremendous electricity demands and are highly polluting heavy industrial facilities. According to the Washington Department of Ecology, the proposed smelter would include two submerged arc furnaces and one 157-foot tall emissions stack; and estimated annual materials would include 170,000 tons of quartzite rock (silicon dioxide), 150,000 tons of blue gem coal and charcoal, and 130,000 tons of wood chips in order to extract 73,000 tons of metallurgical grade silicon per year. The estimated annual emissions would include over 766,000 tons of greenhouse gases per year, plus tens to hundreds of tons of other coal toxins per year.

And as for electricity:

A constant supply of 105 megawatts of electricity – more than 900 million kilowatt hours per year – would be needed to produce the intense heat required to obtain molten quartz in a mixture with carbon reductants. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average U.S. household consumes about 11,000 kilowatt hours per year. The smelter’s annual electricity use would be enough to supply more than 80,000 average homes per year.

You really want a "wartime" level of efforts such as this?

Putz! How’s that going to work ANYWHERE that it snows? How’s it going to work north of the Mason-Dixon line, even without snow, during the late Fall - early Spring, given that there’s lots less light and it is of far lesser intensity.

Ask the Germans how solar has worked out for them - it hasn’t done well at all, it has been a near-complete waste of money, and not for lack of them trying (they’ve spent something like 5 times as much on renewables as California).

Oh, and what of the environmental impact of mining the materials, refining them, building them, transporting them and then reversing most of that process about 20-25 years later when the cells don’t work anymore?

Everyone says that Kerry is a horse face. Actually, he comes far closer to resembling a horse’s ass...and I sincerely apologize for insulting horses.

Remember F’ing Kerry is a SwiftBoat Rear Admiral and Rear Admirals are very smart, especially SwiftBoat Admirals There can be no doubt in what he proselytizes. Even highly decorated Viet Nam combat veterans like Sen. Blumenthal would agree with F’ing Kerry.

Another moron with absolutely no idea the scale of endeavor that would be essential even to begin to approach nut-zero. Building enough solar panels would be the least of their worries.

Kerrie is working off a wish list not actual science. There’s a lot of that going around because actual scientists have rarely if ever been engaged and they have a completely different approach.

American Patriots Against John Kerry

The 1970 meeting that John Kerry conducted with North Vietnamese communists violated U.S. law, according to an author and researcher who has studied the issue.

Kerry met with representatives from “both delegations” of the Vietnamese (North Vietnamese and Viet Cong) in Paris in 1970, according to Kerry’s own testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on April 22, 1971. But Kerry’s meetings with the Vietnamese delegations were in direct violation of laws forbidding private citizens from negotiating with foreign powers, according to researcher and author Jerry Corsi, who began studying the anti-war movement in the early 1970s.

According to Corsi, Kerry violated U.S. code 18 U.S.C. 953. “A U.S. citizen cannot go abroad and negotiate with a foreign power,” Corsi told CNSNews.com.

By Kerry’s own admission, he met in 1970 with delegations from the North Vietnamese communist government and discussed how the Vietnam Warshould be stopped.

Remember when they formed a new company called Solyndra to do that?

And they received half a billion dollars from the government, designed and built a factory, purchased and installed factory equipment, bought and receive inventory, hired workers, went bankrupt, closed the factory, used a bulldozer to destroy all the inventory (rather than send it back), and then had all their documents removed in a raid by the FBI- which documents were never seen again,...
...all in one year?

That was funny..

turn factories into solar panel producers

I just want to see one solar panel factory that runs strictly off of solar power.
