It is unbecoming of an adult to speak publicly about Disney theme parks, but I lament the demise of Splash Mountain.
The log flume coaster, which featured characters from the controversial 1946 film Song of the South, was one of the most popular features of Disney's American parks, and revitalized a previously quiet corner of Disneyland. Yesterday, on its final day, a massive crowd stood shoulder to shoulder outside the attraction, waiting one last time to descend into its famous briar pit.

I am very thankful that a couple of years ago a FReeper published a link for downloading a bootleg mp4 of the movie.
Saved on multiple devices at multiple locations and distributed to my conservative friends who have young children.
The next generation needs to see this piece of Americana.
And the folks who are vilified in the movie are the white folks!

I obtained a bootleg copy years ago. It seems they are getting harder to find. I will willingly make it available to anyone who wants it. I saw it in the theaters when I was a kid, it is a very good movie. I don’t see how this is deemed unacceptable, the former slaves are treated very respectfully in the movie.

John Hirschauer probably has never read the books or seen the movie. It was a briar patch not a briar pit.
I bought a SOTS dvd off ebay a few years ago. It wasn’t sold by Disney but it was professionally made. Glad I got it then because there’s no sign of them for sale last time I checked. I guess it would be considered a bootleg. My sister was at Disney world a while back and took some pics outside the ride. Guess I missed it the one time I went there over 20 years ago.
That’s nice! And you can just view a movie if you want to.
Dizzy sells this film liberally in other countries beside the U.S. SOTS is only “bad” in it’s homeland.
I have the Japanese LD normal English audio. just the songs have subs in Japanese.
Well, Tokyo Disneyland still has Splash Mountain, so some people still get to ride it
