In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. .. a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present.
Let’s take a historical look at the presidents who played nice with the CIA and MIC and those who did not.

John F. Kennedy fired CIA leader Alan Dulles and was planning to end the CIA. He refused to invade Cuba and was also considering withdrawing from the Vietnam War. This would have been bad for the CIA and the MIC. JFK gets killed by a “crazy, lone gunman.”
CIA: Win.
MIC: Win.
Lyndon B. Johnson allowed former CIA chief Alan Dulles (who was fired by JFK) to take a high-ranking post on the Warren Commission — which cleared the CIA of any wronging in the death of JFK. LBJ also escalated the war in Vietnam.
CIA: Win.
MIC: Win.
Richard Nixon allegedly told the head of the CIA, “I know who killed John [Kennedy],” hinting he knew the CIA was involved. This was bad for the CIA.

Military-Industrial? Sure. Okay. The Military aspect is a problem. No doubt.
But The Government-Media Complex is also bad.
And the Government-Health Complex is also bad.
And the Government-Education Complex is bad too.
It’s all Fascism.
Big Business and Big Government working hand in hand is never good.
It is a bit of misdirection, I think, to focus only on the Military-Industrial Complex and a quote from over 60 years ago. Let’s broaden the net and see how big the problem really is.

You sell one, bundle the other with a goat, a mule,

You pile into the derivatives market, buy a Gulfstream
and when it all comes down around your ears...
You go to the government for a bailout.
TRADITIONAL CAPITALISM
You have 2 cows.
You sell one and buy a bull.
Your herd multiplies, and the economy grows.
You sell them and retire on the income.
