I had never heard of that expression. Thanks, I learned something new today.
It was a tackle drill.
The Coach would put one guy in a circle of his teammates, and call one of his teammate’s number.
Guy in the center had to avoid being tackled by the guy whose number was called. No blind side allowed.
Root hog or die!
HS coaches probably can’t do that now.
PS This was in 1955 through 1959 when I was in High School.
