MONROE, La. (KNOE/Gray News) - Police arrested a clerk at a Louisiana Dollar General and charged him with manslaughter after they said he shot at an armed robber.

The Monroe Police Department said officers responded to the Dollar General store Monday for a shooting.

An armed robbery reportedly took place, and the store clerk shot at the suspect. KNOE reports the suspect and another customer were shot.

Police said the armed robbery suspect was found lying in a pile of money he allegedly took from the store. He was taken by an ambulance and later died from his injuries.

The customer who was also shot was treated for their injuries and released from the hospital.

Police said the store clerk, Rafus Anderson, said he locked the store and left after the incident took place.

He then went to the Monroe Police Department where police said he gave a statement.

After his arrest, police said Anderson told them he was afraid the suspect was going to kill him when he pulled his gun out to rob the store.

Police said Anderson also told them he only shot at the suspect and did not know he had hit him as the suspect ran.

Anderson said this was the sixth armed robbery at the store since August, according to officials.

Shot at fleeing suspect.

I would vote not guilty if on the jury.

Self-defense. Very bad in today’s political climate. Your government wants you to die.

“Police said the store clerk, Rafus Anderson....”

Looks like a black name to me. Off the top of me head this is a black on black shooting. Rafus was in fear of his life, so shooting justified. Put me on this jury!

Article says treated and released. That implies relatively minor, to me.

Ah…you’re right. I saw the part about the other customer who was shot. (I’m glad he/she will be OK.)

And it’s right in the headline. Ack! Dreary Monday morning and I guess I need another coffee. LOL

I am not sure that’s what it means.
Said he shot him but didn’t know he hit him as the suspect ran. Could mean the suspect ran after he shot.

I wonder if it was that person who pressed for the charges? Except for that seems clean...

As soon as they are running away from you, the threat to you is, in theory, over and you’re not supposed to shoot. That said, I too would vote to acquit.

If I was the defense attorney, i would introduce into evidence the MANY cases where a robber left, returned and murdered people.

“I would vote not guilty if on the jury.”

_____

Same here. I’m tired of the criminals having more rights than law abiding citizens.

However, The last time I was on a grand jury, I voted to no-bill (not indict) an accused on a gun charge, in addition to other charges, because they wanted to charge him simply because the firearm was in the same room as the bag of marijuana (the person was not otherwise a prohibited person). I swear they charge people with crimes who shouldn’t be charged, and in the next breath let a repeat criminal walk out the door even when their crimes are on video.
