Ukraine receiving 60 Bradley fighting vehicles after fleet departs South Carolina

A load of more than 60 Bradley fighting vehicles departed South Carolina for Ukraine last week as part of the latest $2.5 billion package in military aid that the Biden administration announced earlier this month.

The armored vehicle, named after World War II Gen. Omar Bradley, is operated by three crew members and can transport up to seven infantry around the battlefield.

It's outfitted with a 25mm automatic cannon, as well as a 7.62 Coaxial Machine Gun and an anti-tank missile launcher.

"The Bradley is a very powerful vehicle that we are providing to the Ukrainians," Army Lt. Col. Rebecca D’Angelo, the 841st Transportation Battalion commander who is overseeing the transport, said on Monday.

"This is going to hopefully enhance their capabilities to provide forward advancement in the battlefield and regain lost grounds, by having equipment that matches or exceeds what the Russians have."

After months of resistance, the Biden administration agreed to send 31 Abrams M1 tanks to Ukraine last week.

Germany, the United Kingdom, and other allied partners also announced they'd be sending their own tanks to help fend off Russia's invasion...

I certainly remember the regular Atom Bomb drills we used to have to do when I was a little kid in school early 60's, Air Raid sirens would go off all over the city every last Friday of the month. I volunteered to be the window blind monitor and started rolling them down at the first blast as we got under our desks with our heads between our knees.

Russia has been the designated "Scary Monster" my entire life.

and I though the Nazis were the Bad Guys, why are "we" sending them Bradleys !

Charleston to Gdansk is about 5000 nm so 3 weeks at 10 knots.

They’ll get to Ukraine in about mid-February.

Is it a good idea to let the Russians, with their superior nuclear submarine service, know the timing and the route of this shipment?

During the Cold War, the Soviets will use their submarines to sink this ship carrying Bradley’s. But the Russian navy isn’t the Soviet navy so they may not have the capability to do that.

intentionally loose lips. anything to get russia to do something (sinking armaments intended for a war zone) to justify open intervention.

f-16s seem to be going in the next few weeks. they may take off.land from romania/poland and perform missions against russian assets in ukraine. those airfields are thus targets as well by any non-pretzel rules of engagement. this might be part of the push for them now.

this is bait, in part. low-odds they take the ship (maybe higher for the fighters), but there it is.

During the Cold War the Soviets never did such a thing.

The US and Soviet war plans included a submarine campaign to block transatlantic traffic - a replay of the WWII “Battle of the Atlantic” against the U-Boats. But it never came to that.

Its a paranoid idea. There have been dozens of US ships delivering military cargoes for Ukraine over the last year.

Seriously. We’re neck deep in a war with no sign that the administration has any plan to facilitate its end as the Ukrainian people continue to suffer. They play with fire daily and it doesn’t seem to worry them a bit. Are the Russians going to attack this fleet? Almost certainly not. But is it prudent to advertise its sailing? No, it’s madness, lacking any hint of prudence

Russains plainly do not fear those things. In fact Russia has lots of submarines, including the old type that fire torpedoes and sink ships. They could easily send all those Bradley ****ing vehicles to Davy Jones.

Have you tried asking yourself why they don't do that??

No air support to protect them. They can’t cross bridges. No Ukrainians trained on them so US troops to operate them (they ‘let’ troops ‘retire’ to work the Ukraine and then ‘unretire’ upon return. In the middle, they are contractors). It just puts the US in the war with Russia, that’s all these tanks will do.

"Mostly Dems have taken us to war."

Hmmm:

War of 1812 - Madison-D/R
Mexican War - Polk-D
Spanish-American War - McKinley -R
WWI - Wilson-D
WWII - FDR-D
Korea - Truman-D
Vietnam - Kennedy/LBJ-Ds
Gulf War - H.W. Bush-R
War in Afghanistan - G.W. Bush-R
Iraq War - G.W. Bush-R

Looks like the Ds have it (what's up with 3 major wars initiated by Bushes?)
