Senators reject fighter upgrades for Turkey should it block Sweden, Finland NATO bids

A bipartisan group of senators are calling on President Joe Biden to impress upon Turkey that Congress would not approve upgrades to Ankara's air fleet should the country refuse to allow Sweden and Finland into NATO.

Sweden and Finland filed to join the alliance in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year. The U.S. overwhelmingly approved their entry, with Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley standing alone as the sole Senate vote against their admission.

In order to join NATO, all 30 members must accept their entry. Turkey and Hungary remain the only members of the bloc that have not yet done so. Ankara initially raised objections to their entry over security concerns and remains hesitant to grant its assent despite efforts by Helsinki, Stockholm and the rest of NATO to assuage Turkish fears.

NATO doesn’t need the USA and the USA doesn’t need NATO.

Curious as to what Hungary’s issue is with Finland joining NATO.

Erodgan the Turkish ruler has an election on May 14th it’s possible he will be more flexible after it but I’m not sure of that.

In 2016 July to be precise Erdogan got a call from Vladimir Putin warning him about a coup.

Erdogan blamed the USA for that coup attempt with his enemy a Muslim cleric given refuge in this country.

And by blaming the USA Erdogan was blaming Obama. The Turkish ruler got along better with Trump and now with Obama’s VP in the White House Erdogan is cool to Biden.

I don’t think Hungary has an issue with either Sweden or Finland in NATO.

Hungary would like the ‘openly gay’ US Ambassador to stfu about its domestic politics though, and has said so in no uncertain terms

NATO is a hyper-complex house of cards. Its arrogant and stupid DC neocons attempting to play “Game of Thrones” when they can’t even tie their own shoes.

It should have been disbanded in 1991, with simple mutual defense treaties signed between US, Germany and UK.

Whatever this tit-for-tat stuff about burning Qurans and fighter upgrades are just noise created by cracks and whole thing crumbling.

Hungary wants to avoid confrontation with Russia and Hungary is also going to benefit from the Turkish natural gas pipeline in the years ahead as it goes into southeastern Europe.

NATO isn’t going to give Hungary the energy it needs Erdogan is whether the Russians can do it or not.

A gigantic wall, with machine guns, mortars and water cannons filled with OC spray should be put up on the eastern border of Greece and Bulgaria, and then Turkey should be kicked out of NATO. Erdogan is a radical muslim that is holding Europe hostage.

Close down Incirlik Air Base, shut down the US embassy. Let Erdogan stew with his muslim brethren. I don’t think it would take the Turkish people long to get rid of him.

It would be a shame though, Istanbul is a cool city, lots of things to see and do. And the women are crazy hot. One goes to the area where Salt Bae restaurant is and you wouldn’t know Istanbul from any other city in the US, except for all the smoking and the language.

NATO doesn’t need the USA and the USA doesn’t need NATO.

>>>>

Just talking about NATO yes or no, is truly limiting the wider perspective... It just isn’t THAT simple.
Let’s put it this way: Americas economy can’t survive without its European allies / business partners. Take that to the bank.

Likewise, Europe’s economy cant survive without their American business partners / allies.

Likewise, Russias economy would collapse in less than a month without its Chinese business partners.

So if we let our enemies team up against us, it only seems fair we team up as well with our own allies (Europe) to counter the huge opposing Russia - China - North Korea - IRAN coalition. Right?

If we refuse that logic, then we are full-heartedly supporting our enemies. THEY are teaming up on their side, remember that...

But the further you go east in Turkey the more Islamic\Middle Eastern in its behavior it gets. Ankara is the noticeable threshold.

The USA continues to push and punish everyone who does not comply... effectively pushing them into alliances with those outside NATO.

Istanbul is like our New York, it’s the cosmopolitan city that looks nothing like the rest of the country.
