Break-ins in Asheville, North Carolina, saw a 200% monthly surge in January amid a violent crime spike in the Democrat-run tourist town that has hemorrhaged police officers in recent years.
The Asheville Police Department, which serves a town of approximately 90,000 people, responded to 41 break-ins throughout 2022 and has already fielded 11 reports of break-ins in 2023 as of Feb. 1..
Chris Faber, whose bar in downtown Asheville was targeted twice last month within a span of a few days, told the outlet that a suspect broke into his establishment and stole about 20 bottles of whiskey and up to $800 in cash.
The suspect was then reportedly recorded on surveillance video breaking into a neighboring business and stealing from its cash register.

APD senior officer Robert Crume told the outlet that some businesses are not even reporting break-ins. "They just report the loss to their insurance and move on. They’ve become so frustrated with the situation," he said.

APD Chief David Zack told Fox News Digital last fall that his department lost more than 100 sworn officers since May 2020, and that the force is struggling to maintain visibility while "operating at almost 42% down every single day."

Multiple local law enforcement sources from Asheville who spoke to Fox News Digital last fall laid partial blame for the mass exodus of police on the city's liberal leadership and on left-wing activists who undermine police.

DIY Reparations.
Asheville isn’t really a town. It’s a medium size city.
A medium size city full of “Love is Love, No person is illegal, I believe in Science” progressives.
Woke, numbskull town.
What,to,do? What to do? Oh, i know, defund the police. (Trying to “think” like a liberal)
True, but it feels like a town, not a city. Or did. It used to be a nice safe conservative town. No longer, not since the libs invaded.
Its really sad to see what interloping Yankee Leftist artsy fartsy types have done to Asheville. I went to high school there in the late 80s. It was decidedly not like it is now....a colony of the Northeast.
Celebrate Hell. Be sure to disarm. It’s loving.
Good. Stupid should hurt.
In downtown Asheville since the start of Covid and the downtown riots, there was a violent road rage incident within 8 or 9 blocks from the central police station. It took police 9 minutes to respond.
Since the defund the police movement took hold, Asheville is rapidly going downhill. There is a big reparations initiative, the assistant mayor was discovered giving out cash money to people, the water system failed during the big freeze in December leaving 50,000 residents without water for 5 days.
Recently I passed a scene in a downtown park where 6 young men were talking in an agitated manner. I parked, and went to look at what was the source of their excitement. It was a new placard celebrating LYNCHING! And, it emphasized that the black people were lynched by white people!
Now the City of Asheville seems intent on fomenting a race riot!
Yep.
Dam, I was looking at North Carolina as an escape, but most of it is way too hot for me. Asheville up in the mountains has more moderate weather, so I was hoping it wasn’t a Liberal hhitsole but I guess not.
Asheville, because why pay less money for a home when you can live in the middle of nowhere at DC/Boston/NYC suburb prices?
Is the violence confined to the city of Asheville, or has it spread into the surrounding areas?

($1,000/sq ft in downtown!!!!)
Go west from there. Asheville and Hickpry are stoopid now. Towards Murphy and Franklin. Keep going west til you find what you want.
Something on the edge of the Nantahala national forest should suit your needs.

I wonder too. Worked quite a bit in Hickory in the ‘90s... nice little town, hope ALL of Western NC hasn’t been corrupted.
To think this is the home of the biggest mansion in the country.
Incredible place. When we stopped there in the ‘80s to see Biltmore, there was none of this “Asheville is a city” viewpoint. Not at all.
Sad it’s gotten too big.
