More: The overarching fear was that the program, despite its initially good intentions, could become a tool for surveillance and tracking, holding sensitive personal information and records for each individual in a national digital identity database.
Some comments warned that the REAL ID could become a mandatory requirement for all aspects of American life, with potential consequences beyond its original purpose, including control over gun ownership and marijuana use.
The ID could be necessary for everyday tasks such as air travel, banking, and accessing government benefits like Social Security and Medicaid....

I predict an array of tracking-blocking products to hit the market. The 2-year delay is a window of opportunity. Never go anywhere without inserting your ID and cellphone into a Faraday bag. Stop subscribing to EZPass, etc.
Meantime, call your representative and try to get the Republican House to head this off before the next election.

Mark of the Beast.
The Bible is very clear on what the Mark of the Beast is. This isn't it.

I believe that presenting a valid passport is another option for boarding domestic flights under the Act.

I haven't shined a bright light through my new driver's license to see if it is chipped, but when I first got the "real ID" version I just needed one extra proof of address to get the star. I brought my passport, SS card, my old license and one utility bill to prove residence.
Unless there is a some RF tracking in it, it's the same as my previous license.

Couldnt we just wear a gold star on our clothing??

My Florida drivers license has had a gold star for more than ten years. That license renewal cycle (beginning 2010) demanded that we bring a host of credentials to prove that we are who our drivers license states. Name changes (e.g. marriage) need trail of proof. A valid U.S. Passport is adequate substitute for a Real ID drivers license.

Check your state laws. Many came into compliance for the Resl ID when one gets a drivers license

Yes the passport does work. I maintain mine. And I have not gotten the real ID.
Although I have refused to fly since covid started and see no reason to change my mind now. Which of course isn’t going to matter when they start requiring one to go down the street.
I am surprised at how many of those my age, baby boomers, are so readily willing to accept this. We grew up being taught about totalitarian governments and demanding papers wherever you went.
It is stunning to list the number of surveillance like things that Americans must be subjected to in order to live life that none of which are applied to illegal aliens

Check your state laws. Many came into compliance for the Resl ID when one gets a drivers licenseI think the point is not that some states already require it; but that when all states require it as of the deadline, the system can or will be used nationally, by Federal compulsion, to curtail our freedoms.
The article also points out that once it's in place, they can demand additonal info to be added digitally.
