His support among Republicans at this early stage of the primary cycle puts him in rare company.
Is Ron DeSantis the next Scott Walker? It’s a question I’ve been hearing a lot lately.
The premise is that there’s an important similarity between the two: They both earned the affection of conservatives by “owning the libs” as governors, rather than by giving soaring speeches or otherwise demonstrating the skills to win a presidential nomination.
In the end, Mr. Walker’s success in Wisconsin did not translate to the national stage; the implication is that Mr. DeSantis’s success in Florida might not translate either. A wave of articles over the last few weeks has questioned whether he has the charisma, charm and likability to win the nomination. If he falters, the ending of his campaign might read a like lot the story of Walker for President.
But, at least at the beginning of the race, Mr. DeSantis is no Scott Walker. He would start the campaign in a very different and far stronger position, even if there is still no way to know whether he “has what it takes” to succeed against former President Donald J. Trump. What sets Mr. DeSantis apart from Mr. Walker? To be blunt: how many people already say they want him to be president.
In this narrow but important respect, Mr. DeSantis has a lot more in common with Barack Obama or Ronald Reagan than Mr. Walker or the other promising first-time candidates who did not live up to high hopes in recent years, like Kamala Harris, Rick Perry or Wesley Clark.
Overall, Mr. DeSantis has 32 percent support in polls taken since the midterm elections. This is not a fleeting product of a wave of favorable media coverage. Instead, he has made steady gains in the polls over the last two years.

Do I want someone who built a world wide business empire, who has experience and skills like Trump, who can’t be bought off, or someone whose only job outside government was a grade school teacher for one year?
That’s a tough one.
> You have apparently watched so much Fox Snooze... <
The last time I watched Fox News (or any national news) was probably 8 years ago. Not kidding. I can’t stand those people. I get my news from independent news sources, and from links here at good old Free Republic.
Anyway, who would be a better leader for the country in 2024, Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis? I’d say Donald Trump.
The problem is that I don’t think Trump is electable in 2024. His loose cannon routine has alienated too many people in the middle. And I say this after talking to many such people, friends and acquaintances of mine. They were enthusiastic for Trump in 2016, and reluctant supporters in 2020. But now they no longer support him. Those folks just might go for a “centrist” Democrat instead of Trump in 2024. Crazy, I know.
DeSantis is flawed. But he’s the better bet to keep the commie-lite Democrats out of the While House. Just my two cents. And two cents ain’t worth much anymore.
No, he’s not. He’s Ted Cruz circa 2016.
I agree with you. I was not an early Trump supporter and did not vote for him in the 2016 Republican primary, instead voting for a candidate who had dropped out. I could not vote for Hillary, though, and reluctantly voted for Trump, hoping for the best.
I was impressed by the many good things President Trump did for the country, and he was my choice over Biden. It’s like you said, though. He seems to have learned nothing.
But every time Trump pushes me away, the swamp pushes me back toward him. Still, I like DeSantis and there may be other Republican candidates to consider before I make up my mind.
Those are not Trump’s figures. Check the link instead of snowballing.
“Until I hear something like MAGA or better from DeSantis or anyone else they’re a non-starter.”
Don’t forget your attack on DeSantis because he is Catholic like you posted yesterday.
“Why do you guys constantly scream about not being manipulated by the MSM then turn around and gladly follow the obvious intended plan of this article as a way to ‘slyly’ damage DeSantis?”
Thank you.
“weak support of voter fraud”
Like his election police? Now Mike Lindell, there is a real winner - I just can’t wait to hear what he has to say./sarc
“The last thing this country needs in the White House is an Ivy League lawyer who has been a government employee all his life.”
Boring; this bumper sticker remark is getting old.
I will not vote for a presidential candidate unless his home has been raided by Biden’s Gestapo.
I’m surprised. I’ve read your posts here for many years and you’re almost always extremely bright.
“100% in line with the globalist agenda.”
Stop with the BS already. Please provide one action he has taken which show he kow tows to the Globalists. Go buy another bumper sticker.
why do you insist on being stuck on stupid?...
If you think I’m bright, you should at least give some serious consideration to where I stand on this.
“Ron DeSantis who has sold himself to a bunch of globalist donors “
If donors define the candidate, please explain Trump taking $160 million from George Soros for his Trump Tower. So stop with the weak aspersions and smearing by association.
“OK. How about this?
I will not vote for a presidential candidate unless his home has been raided by Biden’s Gestapo.”
LOL Touche.
“Trump has all the right enemies. DeSantis has all the wrong friends.”
Ah yes, the guilt by association card.
Or Trump taking a million + from Pfizer. They made about 4 billion from a Gov contract for COVID 19 vaccine.
