They’ve succeeded to a degree in demonizing Trump and are now attempting to do the same to DeSantis.
They want to save the spot for a Romney or Chris Cristie type that can “reach out” while giving us the reach around.
They hate that DeSantis, re-elected in a massive landslide, is championing truly conservative policies that are widely popular with Florida's voters.
It makes their tenures in office look weak and ineffective as they paid lip-service to conservatism but nothing more.

Hogan knows he can’t win but his ultimate goal is that Trump loses.
The best chance for that to happen is DeSantis.
Create a conflict where RINO’s like him are fighting DeSantis so DeSantis can be portrayed as the victim and gain sympathy.
A RINO-DeSantis conflict draws attention away from Trump.
So are Trump “meatball” supporters going after DeSantis. Meatball being the latest term Trump is using for DeSantis. Trump is proving himself more and more unstable to run. The Deep State does not want DeSantis or Trump but will use DeSantis to try and stop Trump then turn to one of their favored sons (or daughters).
