Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who is considering a run for president, said Sunday that elected officials dictating school curricula reeks of big government.
During an appearance on NBC News’s “Meet The Press,” Hogan illustrated a stark contrast between himself and another Republican who may enter the 2024 ring, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, on governing what is taught in schools. DeSantis, notably, took stances on keeping woke topics out of schools and not teaching young children about sexual orientation.
“I think that some of this rhetoric is … demanding that things be done a certain way — that you can’t say this, you can’t say that. We’ve got to be really careful,” Hogan said.
“I’m a small-government, common-sense conservative and, to me, it sounds like big government and authoritarian,” he added later.
His conversation with anchor Chuck Todd hinged on how Republicans, particularly those in Florida led by DeSantis, are cracking down on lessons that politicize race or talk about sexual orientation in public schools.
This month, DeSantis scored a victory when the College Board released a revised curriculum for its new Advanced Placement course in African American Studies after Republicans raised concerns about the previous version serving as a front for “radical” extreme left-wing ideology. DeSantis raised particular concerns about the inclusion of queer theory, Black Lives Matter, and intersectionality. The College Board has revised the course’s framework but says it was not in response to Florida.

Attention Larry Hogan education is a state issue not a federal one so if Governor Ron DeSantis or even you when you were Governor of Maryland stuck you nose into education issues you were doing what you’re supposed to be doing.
Federal money for education should end IMHO since it enables federal control.
But just as racial issues sometimes led to federal intervention perhaps a little federal intervention is needed to stop indoctrination in schools and the Leftist Marxist curriculum and sexualization or sexual abuse of children as well.
Last week, there was a story that in the City of Baltimore school district, in this boob’s state where he was governor, 28 of the schools had not a SINGLE student pass the elementary math tests. Not one, and this clown is screaming about hands off by DeSantis to ensure that the schools in Florida, not his state, don’t cram vicious lies down the students’ throats.
Yep, Hogan stepped in it bigtime here.

Please tell me when this golden Era of teaching was, when teachers were free to teach anything they wanted. They could teach little boys to do it in the poop hole, or chop off their penis. They could cut off the boobs of little girls. They could take your child away and abort your grand children in secret. When were they permitted to bring graphic porn into the classroom for pupils? When was this era of supposed unlimited freedom of teachers? There has never been a time in the roughly 400 years we have occupied this piece of land the teachers had such unbridled authority. In most of American history they would’ve been arrested for these acts.
