Larry Hogan’s Authoritarian Covid Response Proves He’s Not The ‘Small Government’ Republican He Pretends To Be
The Federalist ^ | FEBRUARY 20, 2023 | JORDAN BOYD

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who is rumored to be contemplating a 2024 presidential run, spent his Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” pretending he is more of a “small government” Republican than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who recently took action to protect children from radical gender ideology in government schools.

“I’m a small-government, you know, common-sense conservative, and to me, [DeSantis’ governance] sounds like big government and authoritarian: ‘You have to agree with me, and I’m going to tell you what you can and can’t do,’” Hogan told host Chuck Todd.

Hogan wants voters to think he believes in keeping the government out of Americans’ matters, but his heavy-handed response to Covid-19 shows that the true “big government and authoritarian” approach to governance happened under his watch in Maryland, not in Florida.

Hogan, a/k/a “Fat Bastard,” is a complete, 100% slug. While DeSantis took advantage of Florida’s brief lockdown to pave the roads (when there were very few cars on the road), our Fat Bastard governor sat around on his dead ass and did nothing. Fat Bastard was second only to Cuomo in shutting down small businesses. Because Maryland has a ton of lazy government employees, he received no blowback on his lockdowns. This guy is trying to do the McCain/Kasich routine in pandering to the DC press corps.

As a resident of MD I can tell you conservatives specifically and republicans in general HATE Hogan, he is 100% RINO, and a corrupt one with that.

He sole sourced tent contracts to his own company during covid for hospital tents. My wife, who is an RN, never saw the tents used but all the hospitals had to buy them. He also bought a ton of covid tests that only had 1 of the 2 required reagents and as I recall that was from his wife’s company, all the tests had to be discarded.

We in Maryland haven’t forgotten his crude ‘Wear the damn mask!’ comment.

When a political figure begins bantering about “common sense” you can be pretty sure he or she is about to go off the rails.

“Common sense” is very much a meaningless term as it is being used. It really means “shut the hell up and quit getting in my face with all your damned logic and reasonable discourse!”

Just another recourse to bullying and intimidation.

When I hear Republicans oppose something because it is “big government” I know they are using that cliche` as a crutch to do absolutely nothing.

Lockdown Larry is as bad as any Democrat and I wouldn’t vote for him under ANY circumstance because those days of holding my nose are long past.

Bear in mind, Kristy Noem used the same excuse to veto the ban on trans-men in women’s sports. She is obviously better than Lockdown Larry but I don’t trust her either.

If he is the Republican nominee, I will not vote in the 2024 election. That would be the first election I have not voted Conservative since 1972.

He’s the one who claimed not exposing kids to sexually explicit and perverse materials was big government authoritarianism.

Hogan is insinuating DeSantis is a dictator because he us trying to stop the educational bureaucrats from indoctrination kids.

So Hogan is clearly a teachers union crony.
