Moldova authorities fear Russia plans to seize Chisinau Airport

The recently appointed Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said Russia is considering taking control of Chisinau Airport to open a new front in Ukraine, confirming a claim by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

On February 20, 2022, Zelenskyy told the German media Die Welt that the Ukrainian special services have intelligence about Moscow’s plans to seize Chisinau Airport (KIV), in Moldova’s capital city, to use as a bridgehead before opening a new front in western Ukraine.

“Ukraine will always be ready to help Moldova,” Zelenskyy said.

Such a plan is reminiscent of Russia’s initial offensive on Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, an air assault was launched by Russian paratroopers (VDV) on Hostomel Airport (GML), located in the vicinity of Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv, to establish a bridgehead for more troops to be flown in. Though the assault eventually failed, the battle for Hostomel control led to the destruction of the An-225 Mriya, the world’s largest aircraft.

Every European country not yet part of NATO will be invaded by Russia.
That’s how things are, unfortunately. The West seems to awaken though, so let’s hope we’ll remain free from Sovietism a bit longer.

There are dozens of appeasing “Chamberlin” defeatist here on FR, they would just let Russia win everywhere, watching the horror with crossed arms. Such a shame.

Thanks God for NATO. Without Russia NATO, the world would be ruled by RUSSIA and CHINA. No place for America and its allies in such a dreadful scenario.

This seems like a dumb plan - assuming Russia can even seize the airport, how would it resupply its forces?

The EU and NATO never admitted them since 1991 due to their poverty, indebtedness and legendary corruption . The EU doesn’t need another welfare nation.

Time for a merger with Romania since they speak the same language and have many of the same customs. It needs to be quick and can be reversed later when peace comes back.

“Dumb” is to kind a word. Idiotic would be better. Air resupply would be difficult to impossible. The Moldovans and Ukrainians can’t take Transnistria, but they can cut it off from the outside world. The Russian troops there would be rendered useless.

They will use magic carpets to fly supplies, arms, and armor from Crimea to Moldova. Ha ha.

I love the arm chair warriors who don’t understand that you need a constant supply of bullets for every one that is shot.

There certainly seems to be a pattern here. Russia appears to want to take back what was once ‘hers’. After the Winter War they got back part of Finland. In 1939 they got back ‘their’ part of Poland which they somehow got to keep after WWII. After WWII they took back ‘their’ part of Romania (Moldova), a bit of Czechoslovakia, a part of Germany that had never been theirs, Kaliningrad, and of course they ‘took back’ the Baltic states.

More recently they’ve taken back Crimea, and parts of Ukraine, a bit of Georgia, lets not forget Transdnistria, are talking about unifying with Belarus, and they’ve threatened Moldova, and the Baltic states, and Finland if they don’t behave.

For some reason, totally unexplainable, the recent expansion/aggression did not take place during the four years of Trump’s Presidency but during the strong leadership of the Obama/Biden team.

Massive soviet weapons cache there, that is why Ukraine will attack. We shall see what happens.

You are absolutely right. What a great analysis you made.
Secondly, when it comes to WHY Russia attacked Crimea when Obama was President, and now attacking the rest of Ukraine while Biden in President... is because both of those Presidents have been transpiring weakness all over the world.

Trump was scaring the hell of the neo-soviet lunatics in Russia.
Heck, Trump even killed hundreds of Russias Wagner troops in Syria. He was scaring the hell out of Putin.
Thats is WHY Putin was too afraid invading sovereign nations.
