Russia is not the only country with grievances about Ukraine. Hungary and Romania also accuse the country of persecuting ethnic groups living in Ukraine and now forcibly conscripting them into military service. Now the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission will investigate Ukraine for violations of minority rights.

Ukraine is at war. They are under attack. They are drafting all military aged men to fight the attacker. Ethnicity shouldn't matter in Ukraine's draft just like it didn't matter in our draft after Japan attacked us.

I realize that the history of the area is very complex. But if I am an ethnic Hungarian/Romanian whose family has lived in what is now Ukraine for generations, am I somehow not a Ukrainian citizen? Should my last name exempt me from the draft?
My dad and uncles’ Danish last name did not exempt them from service in WWII.

Er, if you are a citizen of a country then you can get drafted by that country no matter where your ancestors came from.

I find nothing wrong with this. If you live in a country, and you’re of military age, you have a obligation to protect your country.
