US ending extra help for groceries that started during COVID
The Associated Press ^ | February 23, 2023 | By JONEL ALECCIA

Nearly 30 million Americans who got extra government help with grocery bills during the pandemic will soon see that aid shrink — and there’s a big push to make sure they’re not surprised.

Officials in 32 states and other jurisdictions have been using texts, voicemails, snail mail, flyers and social media posts — all in multiple languages — to let recipients know that their extra food stamps end after February’s payments.

“One of the scenarios you don’t want to see is the first time they’re aware of it is in the checkout line at the grocery store,” said Ellen Vollinger, an official with the Food Research & Action Center, a nonprofit organization.

For the average recipient, the change will mean about $90 less per month, though for many, it could be much more, an analysis shows. Benefits will return to usual levels, which are based largely on a household’s income, size and certain expenses, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

A public notice in Michigan urged the 1.3 million recipients in that state to “seek needed resources” to make up for the cuts.

“We want to make sure our clients are prepared for this change, as we realize inflation is affecting all of us,” said Lewis Roubal with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Covid didn’t crush the economy.

Government crushed the economy =.

It sounds like the first few days of March could be a “riot”, if you know what I mean....

Was a boondoggle from the start.

And as others said, the government never gives aid. We tax payers are forced to sacrifice our hard earned gains for many who add no value to society.

We tax payers are forced to sacrifice our hard earned gains for many who add no value to society.

Lets see: no value added by vets, first responders all unable to work due to age or disabilities etc. Seniors who are on hard times and are in the same boat.

No value - we don’t need no stinking seniors, vets, first responders. Get rid of the lot of them there freeloaders; American is no longer the land of compassionate people, but of money grubbing scrooges and penny-pinchers pontificating their hatred of all those less successful in life then they have been.

You know darn well I was talking about welfare programs, not government services required for a functioning society, don’t be so dense.

The article was on free money programs, not required civil services that add value. Have a problem following a subject much?

That is found where in the Constitution?

Illegal migrants need groceries, housing and medical care too!
For the ‘Progressives’ who believe in a Zero Sum game (some have little because some have plenty), they ignore the fact in their ideology that adding more demand on resources causes a deficit for others.
Tell Grandma you can’t have that test because there’s an illegal migrant that needs dialysis.

Now people are getting silly. He mentioned vets, so I guess your position is the Military is not in the Constitution?

The Commerce Clause is not in the constitution?

GO Read Article 1 Section 8 for starters. Our Constitution was not written so ignorantly as to not account for the required functioning elements of government and public society.

Do you even know what is in the constitution?

No let me ask you, if you think our Constitution did not address a framework for a functioning government, ergo a functioning society, WTH did you think was in the Constitution??????

It literally is the entire reason a government has a constitution, to provide a framework to create a government for running a working society.

You do understand that SNAP and the Covid benefit are free money programs? They are welfare programs. They add value also.

No they do not, all you are advocating for is wealth redistribution. Before all the government hand outs, local communities, churches and businesses managed quite well in caring for the poor and needy.

They also did it more effectively and discriminately, sifting out grifters, the federal government should not be in the business forcing tax payers to supplement anything other then the functioning elements of the government, federal laws, defense and social infrastructure.

If some of the government needs to provide such assistance as charity it needs to be local or state, that would align with our constitution.

It is not charity to take my hard earned gains by threat of force, which is exactly what a tax is, and give it to someone else. It is institutional theft.
