Who is Jacqueline Maguire, the FBI’s top agent in Philly facing scrutiny for fatally shooting a dog in Center City?

Missing Dog

The head of Philadelphia's FBI field office is facing an investigation after she shot and killed a pit bull outside a Center City apartment building Monday evening.

The shooting of a pit bull by an off-duty FBI agent on a busy Center City street this week has sparked an uproar on social media and protests by animal rights activists outside the FBI’s offices on Arch Street.

Here’s what we know about the incident, the agent involved, and what happens next:

What do we know about the incident? Philadelphia police and the FBI have confirmed that an off-duty FBI agent shot “an aggressive dog” outside the Touraine apartment tower on the 1500 block of Spruce Street on Monday. But so far, they haven’t named the agent involved, citing FBI protocol that governs the bureau’s response whenever an agent is involved in a shooting.

Two sources familiar with the investigation identified the shooter as Jacqueline Maguire, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office. The dog’s owner, Maria Esser, said her 7-year-old pit bull, Mia, died within moments of being shot.

Who is Jacqueline Maguire? Maguire has led the bureau’s Philadelphia office since the fall of 2021 when she was appointed by FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Her career in law enforcement began after she graduated from Villanova University in 1996 with a degree in comprehensive science. In an interview with The Inquirer last year, she said she’d initially considered going to medical school.

But during an internship with the Suffolk County (N.Y.) Medical Examiner’s Office, she came into contact with FBI agents investigating the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996.

“It piqued my interest that that might be the right next step,” she said.

What proof do we have for the shooting being justified? Was the “vicious dog” found to have been wearing a maga collar?

Aggressive pitbulls that are allowed to threaten the public should be shot, along with their irresponsible owners.

FBI vs. loose Pit Bull. Hard call. But leaning pro FBI on this one.

Would have thought there would have been some professional courtesy between groups that are known to harbor out of control violent memebers, though.

Hell, they had no qualms about shooting Mrs. Weaver, the murderous Waco incident,Lavoy Finnecum, and God knows how many other innocents so why would they care about a doggie?

"What proof do we have for the shooting being justified?"

Silly question.

The proof is that she's an FBI Agent, and can shoot whoever, whatever, and whenever she feels like it.

You may have just qualified for a free trip to a re-education facility, comrade.

“...so why would they care about a doggie?”

People were seemingly more upset by the death of Laika, the Soviet space dog in 1957 than the deaths of Hungarians in 1956.

As soon as I read that it was a pit bull, case closed.
Justified shooting.

Good point. I forgot they are above the law and thereby unaccountable to America’s concerns.

https://nypost.com/2022/09/25/pennsylvania-pro-life-activist-arrested-by-fbi-charged-with-assaulting-clinic-escort/

“Put simply, violence is never the answer,” said Jacqueline Maguire, who is Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division. “Violating the FACE Act by committing a physical assault is a serious crime for which the FBI will work to hold offenders accountable.”

I’m guessing that SAIC Maguire has a DOUBLE STANDARD when it comes to use of violence. “LETHAL FORCE IS OK FOR ME BUT A GENTLE PUSH OF A BULLY IS NOT OK FOR THEE.”

There is video. According to the source, who was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the ongoing probe, the video shows Maguire sitting on a bench with her small dog in her lap as a woman walking two other dogs passed by. One of the dogs — Mia — suddenly dragged her owner toward Maguire, snatched the small dog off the agent’s lap, and began aggressively shaking it, the source said.
Maguire threw herself into the fight and tried to separate the animals, eventually drawing her weapon and placing it directly against the pit bull’s hindquarters before firing, the source said.

Aggressive pitbulls that are allowed to threaten the public should be shot

I have a retired friend who does lots of walking and has had a couple of encounters with aggressive dogs. He now cares a "dog sedative" that dispenses sedatives at 9mm a dose that he says he'll apply until sedation is complete.

If that is accurate, that would be a totally justified shooting. If a pitbull attacked my Black Lab, I’d damn well roll straight into that fight and if necessary, would put a round through the pit bull’s skull with my concealed carry.
