San Francisco announced Thursday that it will end its public health emergency for COVID-19 on Feb. 28, just over three years after it was put into place...
In an interview Thursday, San Francisco health officer Dr. Susan Philip said that the move is a positive one, signaling that COVID-19 is no longer the “really severe threat” that it was three years ago, but that it does not mean that COVID is over.
Instead, she said, it indicates that the tools — including masks, vaccines and treatments — are now in place for people to respond to the virus on an individual level.
San Francisco on March 1 also will lift its remaining mask mandates for the general public — rescinding the requirements in places like hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and other health care and jail settings, though staff in these spaces will still be required to wear masks.
“We're going to continue to partner with our community partners and our health care systems, and we will continue to give people information as it comes out and as it changes,” she said. “So this isn't the last that you'll hear from DPH about COVID, but it will become much more integrated into our overall stream of how we give recommendations and guide the city from a public health perspective.”

Good Lord! In other words, they just can’t let it go, even when they claim “it’s over.” The have to keep a last-ditch clench on somebody’s short and curlies.

COVID is the least of San Francisco’s worries. Given that the streets are open sewers and a huge homeless population living in squalor in makeshift camps, diseases like typhus, cholera, TB and possibly plague will be commonplace.
