I don’t consider this a real threat but whoever made it may not have any real idea what the outcome of a large nuclear blast in Yellowstone would have, it might not awaken the dormant supervolcano at all, therefore amounting to a first strike with no strategic value quickly followed by total destruction of Russia by sensibly targeted missiles.
It’s the villains in the Kremlin. Pehaps a decapitation strike with Ninja missiles that takes out their top 10..==

It sounds like a nonsense threat to me too but to entertain the hypothetical;
If their nukes did initiate a major super-volcano eruption no one would care about the radioactivity from the nukes.
It would be like worrying that the enemy’s fragmentation grenades had a coat of lead based paint on them.
And now all the liberals love war. Was just talking to my cousin about that very thing.
Russia won’t nuke us until NATO is fully in on the war.
At that point they have nothing to lose from their view.
So they will attempt to take out as much of us as they can before going down.

I think that is a given. The nuke would be simply for getting the caldera to blow.

Unlikely. The forces involved make a nuke look like a firecracker. But if it did work, it would be an extinction level event for the whole planet.
The ones making the threat were the ones highlighting it as a “radioactive eruption.”
In reality I don’t think any amount of nukes would make the caldera blow. There are already loads of conduits to the surface (geysers, hot springs, pools) so trying to create another with explosives would be useless. A path to the surface is not what is lacking.
It won’t blow until something from below makes the magma chamber swell to an unstable state.

Reminds me of an 1981 episode of the old TV show, “Greatest American Hero” where they, Ralph and Bill, had to stop a a “Fail deadly” system from launching 30 Minuteman missiles, IIRC, in the show, it was called “”Project Spoil Sport.”
