I thought this was going to be a fresh story about a Pennsylvania senator.
Which does not surprise me in the least.
If some guy who answered an ad from a pizza box standing around makes you feel safe, that is nice. I just do not see why I should have to pay for it.
“just put a wad of cash in your luggage before you check it, and see if it’s still there when you get your bags back.”
Better to try it with some loose dog food—a lot cheaper lesson to learn.
;-)
“ This was ready to go boom. ”
******************************
Well, that’s not clear at all. Was this in checked luggage or carryon? I read the article twice and that was not clear. The description does not sound line an assembled bomb at all. The traveler sounds suspicious and this may have been prelude to something nefarious. It also could be possible that he’s simply a dumbass who had packed some sort of firework in his carryon.
"The second time bomb on the right, please."
“To be fair TSA agents are not LEOs. They have no arrest authority. That is why there are always state and local cops within shouting distance.”
IMO we were better served when the airlines and/or the airports were responsible for security.
If a security agent was negligent, they were fired.
If one was caught stealing items out of travelers luggage they were immediately fired.
With TSA, they are government employees and it takes an act of Congress for one to get fired.
To the camel jockeys, you can't have enough "Mohammads" in your name.
Could happen to anyone heh.
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
The perp’s name is Marc Muffley. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a possible convert to islam. Or, he could just be a crazy person. This is my local airport.
“As a frequent traveler, I don’t see airline employees inspecting luggage.”
Agreed. Same here. Airline employees do not inspect bags. They weigh them and toss them on the conveyor destined for random TSA inspection or x-ray inspection. Many of us have found the TSA notes in our bags that say they checked the bag.
Sounds like a package of President Brie. If it smelled a little funky then it was Camambert.
That would be TSA helping themselves. Or, yes, the airline guys in the hold of the aircraft.
Whether or not he's actually a muzzie, this boy needs to be waterboarded. Even if it was not his intent to harm the plane or others, the reckless disregard for the safety of others merits a long prison term. If he wanted to get his fireworks stuff to Florida, he should have sent it ahead UPS ground.
I’m starting a new airline. It’s called naked air!
Everyone has to disrobe to get security.
Its really not that hard. The problem is lazy supervisors and admin people. I was a sup and manager with the fed-gov and fired several criminal/substandard employees. You just need to know what you are doing.
One of my favorite bosses told me,
"Don't fear litigation, we got two dozen attorneys with their thumbs up their butts siting at the regional office with nothing to do. Put them to work".
There were many problems before TSA. State and locals would contract out the work to lowest bidders. No background checks, no vetting. I understand that many of the 'screeners' were arrested by and INS/Border Patrol because they were illegal aliens.
I agree the current setup sucks but I would not recommend going back to contractors.
Fun to watch IF you are not on a plane.

“Will everyone move to the lounge who is not carrying a bomb.”
Not really big into due process, are you? Thank God our founding fathers rather disagrees with you.
Oh, do tell us details about your nifty electronic alarms which alert check-in clerks who work for the airlines.
Airline ramp rats are notorious for pilfering luggage. Desk agents who check-in luggage are not.
