Business owners and workers in a Democrat-run North Carolina tourist town said their downtown district is deteriorating amid rising crime, rampant homelessness and diminishing police.
Multiple people who work in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, bemoaned the condition of the city and pinpointed a lack of police presence to its decline, according to an investigation by local outlet Asheville Watchdog.
"We really need beat cops, police on bicycles," Rose Garfinkle, who lives and works downtown, told the outlet. "The lack of a police presence is noticeable. Things have taken a turn in the last five years."
Violent crime has spiked in the historic mountain town during recent years amid an influx of people moving in from out of state. Violent crime in Asheville per 100,000 people increased 31% between 2016 and 2020 – nearly double the national average and 18 percentage points higher than North Carolina's 13% increase statewide during the same period.

That’s so unfortunate, Ashville is such a cool little town with a ton of really good restaurants and craft beer breweries in a picturesque setting, unfortunately liberals ruin everything they touch, a great little town being turned into a sh*thole.
Along with New York City, San Francisco and other demonrat strongholds.
Even if you put coffee under their noses, they won’t wake up and smell it.
Asheville North Carolina is considering setting up reparations for slavery.
The powers that be in a place like that , must be befuddled about how to handle crime and homelessness.
And yet, when election time comes again, they will vote Democrat.

Asheville is in a beautiful area, and as mentioned, there are good places to eat, and plenty of pubs to hoist a pint if you are so inclined. The city has been self-consciously ‘alternative’ for many years. Aging hippies with gray hair sitting on the sidewalks, backs up against storefronts, alterna-girls with tats serving food and drink. Gone downhill, like everything the Dems and libs touch.
They came from Asheville with a BBQ joint serving what some New York chef envisions. It was fancy made up crap that world not sell

A peaceful and polite population needs no police.

One controversy some 4-5 years ago, was women out in public bare-chested, protest of sorts because they felt that if a man could be in public with no shirt, why should women have to be covered. Such nonsense (although it grosses me out to see a fat slob walking around with no shirt).
Last time in downtown Asheville about 10 years ago was quite an eye-opener, haven’t returned since, except to visit The Biltmore Estate, which is 10-12 minutes south of downtown.
Asheville is about 1.5 hours north of Greenville, SC. Talk about a stark difference. No doubt the crap of Asheville will find its way to Greenville/Greenville County—one of the top favored locations in the country—eventually.
They do it in all nice towns, they ruined Burlington VT as well.
