I think Rush might still be alive if he had not taken up cigars after 20 years of heavy cigarette smoking.

If you quit smoking cigarettes before age 40, your life time risk for lung cancer is exactly the same as non-smokers.

Rush quit before age 40. Then, he hung out in cigar rooms for the next 30 years. Not a good health decision!
