In backrooms and dark corners, airline lobbyists, particularly the Regional Airline Association, are scurrying all over Washington, still trying to undo all the hard work that has been done to make air travel the safest form of transportation in human history. They’re doing this for the usual reasons. They want to try to cheapen pilot training and levels of experience for their own financial gain and expedience. They’re trying to do what is easier and cheaper for them, not what is best for passengers or crews, or for their industry.
Once again, it is necessary that those of us who deeply understand that safety really must be the priority are having to refight the same battles that we have had to fight too many times before.
This time around, the lobbyists are trying to weaken pilot experience requirements .. substantially lower the number of actual pilot flying hours required. This subterfuge is trotted out as a way of achieving their goal of cheapening and quickening flight training without appearing to lower the total 1,500 hours required. But with super credits, the total flight hours would be much less, as much as 50% less. If we were trying to provide more physicians to serve rural areas, would we suggest that the answer would be to cut medical school in half from four years to two years? No! We’d say that would be crazy — because it is crazy.

Over 2 years ago I told my employer I will not fly anymore, if I need to go on company business i drive or not at all.
Part of the problem is, currently it is very expensive to get to those 1500 hours. Between ground school, flying instruction and in-air time, most people trying to become pilots can’t afford it. Some airlines, like United are opening their own pilot academies to get the training needed and add to the pilot pool.

The vaxxes have grounded so many pilots due to heart issues. Now the government wants to lower standards and the airline industry wants one pilot per flight.
They are working overtime to murder us.
The goal is to install some kind of totalitarian government.
It is doubtful that many of the proponents of DIE even realize this...realize that they are being used, that they are nothing but tools.
You have a much greater chance of dying in a car crash than an airplane accident. Nice self own.

I know the odds, but I have some control of my driving, I have zero over flying.
Also that stat you are referring to is a blind one that only takes into account the raw numbers, not how a driver impacts the accident rate, where those accidents occur, etc. Learn how stats work. I could likely pull up stats that show where I may drive is a lower or even 0 chance of death dependent on location and other factors. Hardly the “self own” you think it is.
Regardless I prefer to have control, it is called freedom and responsibility, try it sometime.
I imagine that the airline insurers will weigh in on this... but not until several crashes due to pilot error.

The brother of a friend who flies the 737Max airplane twice experienced the problem that caused the two crashes in Asia that killed everyone on board and grounded the fleet. When it happened to him, he simply reached over and shut off the airplane’s ‘pitch control’ system. His airplane took off like normal.
To make that happen, in fractions of a second, he had to 1) recognize the problem, 2) know what to do about it, and 3) KNOW WHERE THE SWITCH WAS LOCATED. To accomplish what on the surface seems like such a trivial task, takes hundreds of hours of training. You can’t go: “Oh, that feel’s funny, where’s the training manual?” There are hundreds of dials, knobs, switches, and controls in the cockpit. With even hundreds of hours of training in a simulator most people wouldn’t even be able to find the switch in time, much less, even recognize there was a problem.
I agree with you. I gave up flying longer ago then you. I was in the over million mile club due to business and personal. Statistics can say what they want them to say. I could use this one. On my island there are 55 registered planes of all types. Probably 15000 cars. Last year one of those planes went down and took the pilot and trainee with it. Last year there was one vehicle fatality. I like those odds in favor to use my car.
