Cost of Bakhmut ‘meat grinder’ battle on Russian army revealed
The Telegraph ^ | 7 March 2023 | Roland Oliphant

Posted on 03/10/2023 9:11:33 PM PST by MinorityRepublican

Russia has lost an estimated five men for every Ukrainian soldier its forces have killed in the battle for Bakhmut, according to a Nato official.

Speaking to CNN on condition of anonymity, the official said that Nato intelligence showed that Russia’s losses in the assault on the eastern salt-mining town far outweighed Ukraine’s.

The official also said, however, that Ukraine’s losses defending the city were significant.

Russia’s use of costly wave attacks have prompted comparisons to the First World War and the commander of the mercenary forces leading the assault has described the battle as a “meat grinder” for Russian troops.

Russia has been assaulting Bakhut since August, in what has become the longest and costliest battle of the war.

Douglas MacGregor tells a far different story.

Let’s see. Who shall I believe ?

An anonymous NATO-CNN source, or a decorated, non-anonymous, veteran military expert ?

probably true

offense always takes more casualties than defense

especially with Russia’s brutal tactic of throwing waves of troops at the guns

maybe time for another Russian mobilization? yeah that should go over real well ...

Well certainly not MacGregor !

The other person should be also viewed with great skepticism.

OK you explain why Russia is still sucking on the battlefield, genius

it’s only been 7 months, billions of dollars and thousands of pieces of equipment lost, thousands of your troops killed, and you incompetents STILL can’t secure Bahkmut

give it up and go home ... Russia will never win this, book it

Was that true for the USA in ww2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq 1, Iraq 2 and Afghanistan? 5 to 1 wow. You’re a regular military wizard. Maybe you can be the Canadian supreme commander.

If any of this was true, does that mean the Ukes are winning? We could never win a war against the Russians. It’s impossible. We can only kill 140 million Russians. They could double that. You see, they only have 140 million killed and win the war.

If you would have paid attention to the Biden, Inc. reps here you would know that the Ruskies have been out of ammo for nearly a week. I think they’re doing surprisingly well with rocks or sticks or whatever.

The only question I have is what will Putin do if Zelensky captures Crimea? Putin rules Russia with an iron fist and one thing he cannot do is to look weak. If Putin loses Crimea, his enemies in Russia will smell blood. Putin knows that.

The Soviets after Stalin were pretty rational. Putin is not. That's the main difference. At the end of Soviet Union, Ronald Reagan was able to reason with Gorbachev.

Nuke us all, that is what we have been trying to tell you.   President Putin and his Foreign Minster has said it over and over he would use nuclear weapons.   If there is nothing left to lose...

Putin won’t use nukes, because that WILL bring in NATO ... which is the last thing Putin wants, he can barely handle just ukraine

Russia would also lose a lot of the political support they have now

e.g., China and India have both said using nukes would change their support for Russia

so spare us the unnecessary fearmongering
