GWTW has been hated a long time.
In my lifetime, it went for a yearly TV event to only on TCM, to having a warning on it in the last several years. Including a warning SPECIFICALLY from DirecTV on its info.
I think the main reason it was hated was more Yankee self-righteousness, than black defense, though that fed into the former.
I remember watching a TV movie from the late 70’s or early 80’s.
Don’t remember the name of it.
A bunch of southern black folks were screaming, “RUN! THE DEMOCRATS ARE COMING!!”
Then...
A bunch of hooded klansmen on horseback came into frame.
Holding torches.
Every viewer knew what was about to happen...
