It's likely a moot point now. Alvin Bragg has ensured that Donald Trump will handedly win the GOP nomination.
If this is part of a greater Democrat plan, that waits to be seen. Normally, I'd say that the Democrats want to run against Trump because they know they'd soundly beat him but I can't put it past the Democrats to once again make themselves so loathsome that voters who absolutely despise Donald Trump will have no choice but to vote for him.
We shall see. I agree that a Trump nomination appears to be almost inevitable at this point.
