Allegheny County saw one of the steepest population declines in the United States last year, continuing a decadeslong trend in Western Pennsylvania, which has steadily lost residents since the collapse of key industries in the 1970s.
According to data released Thursday by the Census Bureau, more than 12,000 people left the county last year — about a 1% drop — landing it in the top 10 counties for population loss between July 2021 and 2022.
A host of factors have been blamed for the drop, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a surge in violent crime nationwide that has led to an exodus in many cities.
The counties enveloping the nation’s largest cities — Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City — saw the sharpest declines.
The new figures mark the third year in a row that Allegheny County has lost residents in a trend that has raised concerns among economic development leaders and other local officials and has a direct impact on tax revenue and federal money.
“Less population means less people available to spur economic growth which further dissuades people from moving to the area,” said Frank Gamrat, executive director of Allegheny Institute for Public Policy, a think tank that targets economic development in the region.
Pennsylvania was among the hardest hit states. Overall, it experienced a loss of more than 40,000 residents — the fourth-largest drop across the United States. Of the 67 counties in the state, more than two-thirds lost people.
Only two counties in Western Pennsylvania saw an influx of people, including Butler County, which benefited from the migration of Pittsburghers over the past decade.
The Census Bureau’s yearlong window considers births, deaths, and migration — the number of people moving in and out of counties — to establish population trends.

Finding new nests to foul.
Not to worry - the government will move in millions of uneducated, unskilled illegals, refugees and asylum seekers to “save the economy.”

Gee, what a surprise!
THat is also how they save the congressional seats and EV’s. Why do you think the Democrats fought so hard to allow illegals to be counted in the census.
Well, yes. The regional population of that whole area has gone down significantly!
But, you see ...
the voter roles (dead, alive, moved, invisible, and visible),
and the voter rolls,
and number of ballots counted continues to increase every election!
Pennsylvania’s population decline probably has less to do with out-migration than with demographics. The state has one of the oldest populations in the U.S.
Word of warning, though: If we don't restore our republic, there won't be any red states to run to for long.
That doesn’t explain why PA can’t attract taxpayers to replace the folks croaking or voting with their feet.
You can tell the States that decline in population based on the number of fans that show up at road games.
When the Steelers play the Cowboys in Dallas, it’s over 50% Steelers fans.
And yet the number of registered dems in Allegheny county continues to skyrocket.
While Pittsburgh is Democrat-run, I remember it until last twenty years or so to be somewhat a conservative area compared to major liberal cities. Liberal friends of mine who moved here from elsewhere in the 1980s-1990s would complain about how conservative we were. Sadly, as the Rat Party has moved left, it has pushed the entire country leftward, but especially Rat-majority areas like here in Allegheny County.
Pennsylvania attracts plenty of new taxpayers … but it’s only the eastern third of the state that is growing. With the exception of the State College area (home of Penn State University), pretty much everything west of I-81 is in decline. There’s no reason for anyone other than a retiree to move to most of these places.
Read this slowly - Allegheny County saw one of the steepest population declines in the United States last year, continuing a decades long trend in Western Pennsylvania, which has steadily lost residents since the collapse of key industries in the 1970s.
AND YET, the number of residents listed on the “Active” voter roles continues to rise. How many BIG cemeteries in Allegheny County?
It doesn’t attract enough tax payers.
It’s replacing makers with takers.
That won’t end well.

More than any other sport, the NFL has turned every team into a national franchise.
That’s how you get a tranny for Health Secretary, and a brain-dead Senator.
Cowboys and Packers are the outliers in that they have more national recognition because of their history.
I actually should have used the Detroit teams. Even the bad teams still get a lot of their fans to show up on the road, especially the Red Wings, but I even notice when I’ve gone to the Rangers games when they play the Tigers, a lot of Tigers fans are there, and they are locals (including me!)
