Roy McGrath, former Gov. Hogan staffer and FBI fugitive, shot dead during standoff with police

Roy McGrath, a chief of staff of former two-term Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan turned fugitive who has been on the run from the FBI and federal officials for weeks, is now dead, his attorney said.

Attorney Joseph Murtha confirmed in a statement to Fox News that his client is dead after succumbing to gunshot injuries following a standoff with police late Monday night.

During the standoff, at least one FBI agent fired a weapon and McGrath was injured. Law enforcement officials, however, have not revealed if he was struck by police or if the injuries were self-inflicted.

"Good evening. The FBI has confirmed that Roy has succumbed to his injuries. It is unclear to me at this time if the injury was self-inflicted or was as a result of an exchange of gunfire with the FBI," McGrath’s attorney said. "It is a tragic ending to the past three weeks of uncertainty. I think it is important for me to stress that Roy never wavered about his innocence."

Pathetic. No mention of what he was running from. Not that I give a shit but just writing that he failed to appear in court without mention of what his appearance was for is just plain pathetic.

“Was this the one with the (alleged) covid-19 funds fraud?”

I think that’s correct. He was charged wire fraud and I believe it was Covid funds.

From the Lamestream Media:

McGrath was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2021 on charges that he defrauded the Maryland Environmental Service, a state-operated corporation where he served as executive director before joining Hogan’s office, of a $233,647.23 severance payment by “falsely telling them that the Governor was aware of and approved the payment,” according to the Justice Department.

The indictment also alleged that McGrath directed MES funds to an art museum for which he was a member of the board of directors so as to avoid paying for a pledge out of his own pocket, defrauded MES to pay for a tuition expense of more than $14,000 and falsified time sheets during two vacations.

McGrath was initially charged with wire fraud and embezzlement from an organization receiving more than $10,000 in federal benefits, and a superseding indictment returned in June 2022 also charged him with falsifying records. On the state level, he faced felony theft charges and a violation of the state’s wiretap law, the Justice Department said.

The Clintons and Bidens must be thanking their lucky stars that they're not Republicans.

It’s a sorry day to find yourself sympathizing with an FBI fugitive. Now, I just assume he’s the good guy in the scenario.

I agree. Now I wonder what he found out that they couldn’t let him disclose.

My ears perked up as soon as I read the words; “at least one FBI agent fired a weapon”.
When the American Stasi is involved, I can only assume we are talking about a Political Crime.

I truly expect President Joe 81millionvotes Biden to pin a Hero of the State medal on that agent’s chest soon.

This story is completely bizarre. He stole funds in a number of areas. Then went on the lam, only to die in a shootout with the FBI? This guy.

Remember this the next time those of you required to, fill out a "time sheet"....especially if you work at home.

Why the FBI? He was a federal fugitive so the Marshals Service should have been in charge. Something here stinks.

Stink?
This government has stunk the whole system up.
If only Americans could take back the country.
It is a simple fix.
Couldn’t imagine being a US Marshall.

Another Republican bites the dust. Failure to appear for a wire fraud charge; does seem over the top that the feds would raid his house and go after him as if he were a confirmed serial killer. Of course he’s dead and if the feds killed him we won’t hear nothing more about him.
