Ron DeSantis' long-haul strategy against Trump comes into view

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ team is already plotting out a strategy to run against Donald Trump for the long haul. The plan focuses less on making a quick splash in places like Iowa or New Hampshire and more on outlasting the former president in a battle for Republican convention delegates.

Even though it’s early and DeSantis isn’t officially a candidate yet, in talks behind the scenes, an expanded map is viewed as one of the keys to victory, three sources close to the governor said.

“There have been multiple conversations about delegates and how they are picked in various states across the country,” a DeSantis adviser said. “One thing that we have looked at is that Trump can be beat on the delegate portion of all this. He has never been good at that.”

Another DeSantis political adviser said there have been internal conversations about delegate strategy. Staffers expected to lead the effort include Ryan Tyson, a longtime Florida GOP pollster who played a crucial role in DeSantis’ 19-point re-election victory last year, and Jeff Roe, a longtime Republican operative who led Sen. Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign and is now advising the pro-DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down.

“I think if you look at out-of-state travel, it’s all over,” this person said. “It’s not missed on anyone there that it’s often to early states or large delegate states.”

Two pro-DeSantis super PACs have taken the lead as he travels the country, one of them, And To The Republic, often coordinating event logistics and the other, Never Back Down, engaging in polling and other efforts to promote him on the ground. The latter group is led by Ken Cuccinelli, one of the architects of Cruz’s strategy to wrangle delegates away from Trump ahead of the 2016 Republican convention.

Another glowing report from corporate media. The Marxist Democrats want to pick our nominee. Anybody but Trump.

“more on outlasting the former president in a battle for Republican convention delegates”

DeSantis has realized he has no way of winning fairly.

The UniParty plan is gerrymandering the convention so that Trump can’t win even if he wins each primary.

Smart, honestly. It's really about time primary candidates ignored Iowa, they haven't picked the GOP's presidential nominee in an open primary anytime in the 21st century.

Iowa Caucus winners:

2008: Mike Huckabee
2012: Rick Santorum
2016: Ted Cruz

Iowa's track record of fail shows how unimportant they are. They pick corn, not nominees.

THIS worries me BECAUSE the delegates are complete RINOS, just ask Charlie Kirk how he was treated by the delegates when he was lobbying for Harmit Dillion to run the RNC!! The delegates to,d him OUTRIGHT they didn’t give a shit about what the base wanted, they didn’t care that 98% of the base wanted a change, that it was THEIR decision and SCREW what the base wanted!! Charlie came back absolutely STUNNED by these RINOS!!

“. DeSantis raised more than $200 million during his 2022 re-election campaign, the most of any gubernatorial campaign in U.S. history, and he is expected to have the largest war chest of the 2024 GOP primary field.“

I’m in too, once RDS announces. A whole lotta small donations from life long conservatives like me will certainly help.

Ok so DeSantis is successful and gets the nod. Are we one big happy family now with Trump’s blessing?

The Establishment (and that’s both sides of the aisle) can keep dreaming...

Gotta have some sort of spin, but there is no math, short of a major black swan event, where Trump is not the nominee..

And the establishment burned through more than 100,000,000 dollars trying to carry OZ over the finish line in a single state and couldn’t do it.

I have no doubt the establishment is going to throw everything and the kitchen sink at trying to keep Trump from the nomination, but it will ultimately fail. There is no math that gets anyone else the GOP nomination.

Desantis is following Cruz and Rubio down the road to long term damage of himself if he decides he’s going to take on Trump directly.

Shame too, he has a bright future in front of him if he doesn’t eff it up.
