I may have fallen off of the turnip truck a while back but I did manage to get back on. So can someone explain how sea level is somehow different in some areas of the earth than others?

hurricanes and nor’easters cause major erosion of sandy shorelines. Erosion will appear as sea rise to people who don’t live in the affected area.

I’m pretty sure it’s because Americans have more guns than anyone else. Maybe I wouldn’t know that if I didn’t read so many social media comments.

I will bet it isn’t the sea level rising.

IT is the land sinking

How is sea level rise different in different places?

Here are 3 casues.

1) Often it is perception of sea level change, when it is really the land is rising or falling. In the Baltic sea region, the land has been rising for centuries, due to recovery from land sinkage caused by the weight of glaciers. In the Houstan area it has been dropping for 100 years, probably because theyve pumped out a lot of water and oil from the ground and the land subsides.

2) If the salinity in the region is dropping, perhaps due to changes in river water flows, the water gets lighter and the water level will rise, . Or if the water temperature in the region is rising, the water gets lighter and the sea lelvel will rise.

3) If offshore current are slowing, (This is happening in the Gulf Stream off of the US East Coast) the sea lavel on the nearby shore will rise due to reduced Corriolis effect. This can be a major effect.

Hope that helps.

You are secure on the turnip truck, my good FRiend.

Water still seeks its own level.

Archimedes' principle remains in effect.

If there were unprecedented rates of sea level rises along our eastern coast, the levels would have risen, proportionately everywhere. Most noticeably, in the Maldives, the equatorial chain of low, low altitude islands. (They would have been long underwater.)

Deceit.

It's the Dems' and their non-scientist pals' middle name.

Because sea level isn’t actually ‘flat’. It rises and falls in a long-term way associated with where the ocean currents are pointing. This is in addition to relatively static clustering higher over dense spots in the earth’s crust and near islands and continents.

This data from JASON is also of interest:

Pages 16, 50 and 52 are most relevant.

since 2010, sea level rise along the nation's Southeast and Gulf coasts has ramped up dramatically

Why, yes, I can explain why the sea level is higher in this region. You see, people in that area of the US are climate change non-believers. By publishing this fake news, they hope to scare them into being believers.

Sea level varies in direct proportion to the number of climate alarmist along a given coast line.
