A scandal involving racist text messages sent between Antioch police officers led to mayhem during a Tuesday city council meeting. At one particularly intense moment, Mayor Lamar Thorpe stormed out of the council chamber following a heated interaction with a member of the community.
Thorpe, who is Black, was the subject of at least one of several text messages revealed in a new report showing that officers in the city’s police department routinely used racist slurs when discussing Black people and other minorities. In one exchange referencing the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, an officer reportedly sent a text to his colleagues in which he promised to buy a prime rib dinner for anyone who shot Thorpe with nonlethal bullets from a .40 mm launcher.
A video of Tuesday’s meeting showed that nearly three dozen community members, many of them Black, signed up to speak to the council. Several talked about brutality they said they suffered at the hands of Antioch police, and pointed to the newly revealed text messages as evidence that a culture of racism exists within the department.

That’s what they get for stirring up and supporting BLM crooked riots
Did these officers think nobody would ever read their emails?
“It never looks good on black guys,” the sergeant reportedly responded. The other officer then replied: “Just like jobs and responsibilities.”
I’m not taking sides but what “racist words” were texted? I’ve been called a racist for simply opposing Socialism just because the person spouting it was black.
The Mercury News reported that many of the messages contain racist or homophobic slurs, including calling Black people “gorillas,” “monkeys” and “water buffalo.” Officers reportedly also bragged about falsifying reports and using violence during arrests.
Agree and remember that these people wouldn’t have a purpose in life without creating division and destruction. They don’t want to get along with anyone for any reason. They have no respect, love, sense of responsibility, joy, or anything. They say a lot of words, but look at what they do.
Don’t know what all was said but a court has already determined that calling someone “water buffalo” is not racist.
I wonder if the Chief new about it?
Dr. Steven A. Ford, Chief of Police
He’s black.
It’s possible to be angry and frustrated about black dysfunction and about black solidarity defending black dysfuction and about black solidarity extending so far that it becomes racism, and still express that anger without resorting to slurs and denigration.
I am in the financial services business — a compliance officer...
My usual messages about e-mail to the reps I try to keep out of trouble is:
1) “Dance like no one is looking. Text and e-mail like it will be read back in a courtroom 3 years from now.”
2) “If you don’t want grandma it reading now, the New York Times printing it next month, or the prosecutor reading it aloud to your jury 3 years from now, DON’T HIT SEND.”
Fire them, jail them, take away their pensions.
That's what kills me about the sad state of our society today. There is a serious lack of introspection and accountability when it comes to this.
Back in the day - way back - there was a saying among kids:
“sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”. This was hurled at anyone who was calling you names. Also I didn’t get cuddles and kisses if I went home crying to my mother. She’s say something along the line of “don’t play with them then”.
Today for some reason, some ppl simply can’t tolerate name-calling. They categorize it on the same level as physical assault. It’s stupid.
>nonlethal bullets from a .40 mm launcher.
.40mm launcher. Ok.
Neither Alec Regimbal or his chatbot have a clue as to what they are discussing.
Did they say bad things about Pittsburg people?
Excuse me, denigration?
They’re very, very tiny beanbags.
Who really says “water buffalo” as an insult?
Water buffalo are tough, family and community oriented creatures who will band together to utterly stomp the snot out of anything that tries to attack their herd.
I’d take it as a compliment if someone called me a water buffalo!
