7 Important Social Benefits Kids Develop From Homeschooling
The Federalist ^ | 4/17/23 | Joy Pullman

Homeschooling rose to 1 in 10 American kids in 2021 due to lockdowns, and the number has remained high even as lockdowns abated. Most families who began homeschooling due to lockdowns say they don’t plan to go back.

Despite the steady increase in homeschooling since its revival in the 1980s, families who choose this way of raising their children often face fearful responses from family and friends. Chief among the concerns is what people often call “socialization.”

Sometimes, they mean, “Will your kids have any friends?” Other times, they mean, “Will your kids understand social cues and how to get along with normies?”

Yes, you can find homeschooling kids who dress oddly and don’t know how to carry on a basic conversation. But you can find people like that anywhere. As anyone who attended a public school can confirm, people who can’t make eye contact and are otherwise antisocial persist in that environment, too.

Speaking of the need to do away with the Dept of Education, here is a timely article on the benefits of home-schooling.

As home schoolers, we’d frequently get push back, “What about socialization?”

I’d say, “We socialize the boys at home. One a week I push them up against the wall and take their lunch money.”

"7 Important Social Benefits Kids Develop From Homeschooling"

No. 8. Kids who are homeschooled typically live with their mother and father.

These “concerns” about socialization are the result of propaganda to a receptive audience ie. working women. They love thinking that dumping their kids in daycare and public schools is good for them.

The homeschoolers I’ve interacted with are better socialized than the institutionalized kids. Their manners are better and they are more curious than the other kids. (I teach a CCD scripture class to 12 year olds).

Most homeschooled people I have interacted with are better behaved, better educated, and are not indoctrinated to be “woke”.

George Washington was home schooled and a participant in a hazardous expedition at age 16. He didn’t need to be “socialized” by highschool thugs, half-dressed girls, and LGBTs.

We are homeschooling one granddaughter now. My son and daughter in law take them out of public school after grade six. I start teaching a second one next year. I’m the history and music teacher. I would highly recommend this to all grandparents. I purchased two copyright 1976 freshman college world history survey books from Thriftbooks ($5.49 each). I would put my 13 year old granddaughter’s understanding of world history up against any high school senior’s in the country. I spend 12 hours a week with her and the bonding is tremendous. Save your grandchildren!

I would expect that of the kids I've seen as they age. I find that they want to be educated and believe in reality. They follow logical arguments and want to know how to make judgments.

I feel sorry for the public school kids since they seem to be at a serious disadvantage.

We home-schooled up to high school. The major benefit was the added time it gave us to do other things like piano lessons, sewing lessons, sports teams, etc. without “homework” messing up the evenings.

Good for you! I homeschooled my youngest K-12, and would love to be involved with any homeschooling of future grandchildren.

What a great legacy you are continuing to create!

The main benefit as I see it is not getting the s*** beaten out of them every day and robbed by ferals as the staff look the other way.

Home schooling is as bad as these giant schools. It was never an issue until they started consolidating schools putting too much power into the hands of a few.

Homeschooling has come a long way from the odd way the had it in the 80’s and 90’s. Now they have sports and activities with other children. They got rid of a lot of the weirdness.

My supremely educated mom homeschooled me and always gave me the impression she was sharing something wonderful with me, even if it was basic arithmetic or Dr. Suess.
As for socialization, it did get more challenging, since my peers were usually public school victims. But she taught me to look for the good in everyone, and if they were ignorant, just look for something else.
My fellow homeschoolers received excellent education and that’s an advantage, a great advantage yet still only that.

Disclaimer- I have worked with a Christian homeschool organization for a couple of decades often leading introductory seminars.

When asked “What about socialization?” I habitually respond “ Yes that is another excellent reason to homeschool.” After letting that set in on their dumbfounded faces, I then I explain the evils of peer pressure and bad company; contrasting that with home-school graduates who are polite, outgoing and able to interact with a diversity of ages and backgrounds. I tell them of my own children’s “church friends” 4-H and clubs. In short order I explain to them that parent supervised and limited socialization leads to the best outcomes for a child’s social development, why just look at a public school and ask: “How’s that working out?”

If parents observe and address these social dynamics, mostly by helping their children find friends who build them up instead of savage their family’s choices, homeschoolers do tend to emerge into adulthood as independent thinkers. They tend to be quite comfortable with nonconformity, bringing new perspectives into their communities. This strengthens our society, especially now, as political correctness is metastasizing into a totalitarian social credit system.

There was a story a few years ago, where the co-creators of South Park "came out" as Republicans. Similarly, during the Trump year, it became fashionable to coin Trumpism the new Punk. "Punk-rock bands created their own independent labels and staged gigs in small clubs or church basements. Trump lacked support from Republican Party elites in the same way that punks lacked support from major labels and promoters."

Homeschoolers have been vilified for decades. However, the poles have shifted. Indeed, punk rockers have commented that it was the ESTABLISHMENT that pushed the covid shots, lockdowns, vaxx passports, and all that nonsense - and rockers like the third best musician in Nirvana were establishment Pied Pipers. Parenthetically, the death rate for people in bands with Dave Grohl is higher than that for people contracting covid. I'm just sayin'.

The Educational/Industrial Complex WANTS conformity, which includes bullying as socialization. HSing stands athwart that thrust. And my kids prefer punk to Flu Pfizers.

I tell them I dont really feel good about having my child socialized with their any way.

No offence, because its the teachers and School boards I am objecting too. I feel for your kids as well having to be in that environment.
