Marc Elias, Democratic Campaign Arm Hit With FEC Complaint For Allegedly Misclassifying Legal Payments

Democratic lawyer Marc Elias and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) are the subjects of a complaint to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that they misclassified payments.

The Elias Law Group was paid nearly $5.2 million by the DCCC from Oct. 2021 to July 2022 for legal services classified as “RECOUNT LEGAL SVCS,” despite no federal recounts taking place in that time period, and months to go until the Nov. 2022 midterm elections, according to an FEC complaint brought on April 10 by the Committee to Defeat the President, an anti-Biden Super PAC.

“He’ll pay a fine. Lots of leftist billionaires happy to donate to pay it off.”

And he will not be indicted for criminal charges in connection with the “misclassifying” of legal payments.

Perkins Coie has offices in a few “red” states. GOP could find grounds to go after them if they wanted to. Dems certainly would if the cheating was in the other pocket.

Whatever comes of FEC complaints?

If you are a Republican, they use it to uplift a misdemeanor to a felony.

One of Bragg's charges against President Trump is mislabeling campaign spending as legal expenses.

One of Bragg's charges against President Trump is mislabeling campaign spending as legal expenses.

Bragg's charge does not even make it to the misdemeanor level unless he can show the records were falsified with "intent to defraud". But who was he intending to defraud? Maybe Bragg would want to say the voters were defrauded into electing Trump in the 2016 election under false pretenses. Now this is very weak to start with, but it totally gets destroyed by the little detail that the invoice and payments were made AFTER the election took place. So who was defrauded? I can't think of anybody and Bragg doesn't say anymore than he says what the other crime was that was supposedly committed to raise it to a felony.

Bragg has failed to even specify a coherent theory as to how Trump could be guilty of even the misdemeanor charge!

Of course!

But this is about charging Elias with the same thing as President Trump. Remember Elias was hired by the DNC in 2020 to change election laws to influence the outcome favorably to Democrats, and but he billed it all as legal expenses.

Was Elias defrauding the voter by hiding his expenses?
