The problem is that “Under 18” could mean 17 or it could mean 10. Why not be specific? For example state it like this, “Mature older adolescents above the age of 15 with the capacity to fully consent to sex in certain circumstances.”

If the UN statement on age of consent was about Romeo and Juliet laws that would be one thing. But I am pretty sure it is another attempt to legitimize grossly inequal, criminal, sexual contact between adults and children of any age provided the child has been duped by his or her grooming into giving “consent”. Consent is a meaningless word in those circumstances for a number of reasons.
