Whole Foods plans to lay off several hundred corporate employees: Read the memo here

Whole Foods is letting go some corporate employees as part of a planned reorganization of select teams, and as its parent company closely examines costs.

Whole Foods plans to reorganize certain global and regional support teams over the next two months, the company’s executive team wrote in a memo to employees on Thursday. As a result, the upscale grocer is laying off several hundred employees from those teams, a spokesperson confirmed. The cuts translate to about less than half of a percent of the company’s global workforce, a Whole Foods Market spokesperson said.

I said late last year that this recession will be a bit different since it will hit middle-management the hardest. Previous recessions had the lower income workers take the brunt of the pain while leaving upper-middle class higher income employees mainly untouched. This time it will lead to a large number of lay-offs in corporate offices. (Hopefully, D.I.E offices will be the first to go).

How whole foods has managed to stay afloat at all is a miracle IMO.

The few times I've been in one, the store was virtually empty.

I looked at all the employees, the utilities, the building, the stock, all as a drain on NO income.

I don't know about all whole foods, but many food businesses now are based entirely around the "grubhub / instacart" model - home delivery.

Several restaurants have opened in our area that do not have seating! You can order on line for take-out, or have it delivered.

We have one in Destin.

It is a mile and a half from a Walmart and half a mile from a Publix and a Fresh Market.

While those stores are usually crowded, WF is usually not.

They cater to the wealthy Destin liberals that live ‘organically vegan’ and do not care for shopping with hoi-polloi, tourists and normal people. The prices do not bother them.....................

This is a store that I decided early on not to patronize because of their business model was designed for…let’s just say…others. There are plenty of better options where I can spend my grocery budget. IMHO.

How much money do they spend on woke nonsense? Probably could save a ton if they pruned those worthless departments

I can't imagine anyone wanting to add the high delivery prices to the already exorbitant prices that WF charges. Must have money to burn.

My homebound mom ordered Whataburger with her home assistant for delivery. The total cost came to $52 for two fast-food burger orders, including a modest tip.

Ditto for me. I went in more out of curiosity. Wasn't impressed.

I can't imagine it either. But it happens. My kids Gen-Z friends seem to do it alot.

They also have no money, but hey, that's what the government is for, right?

It’s kind of out of the way, but I went to a WF just to see what all the fuss was about. Not impressed. I think I bought some fennel and wild rice and never went back. Between the garden, the chickens, the local farm stands, and Hanniford I can get real food with real nutrients still in them and quality ingredients from the latter to flavor it up.

Incidentally, I tried Instacart once and then cancelled my order the same day. They charge your credit card but then take 5 - 7 days to refund the amount. I was not happy, and let them know so.

Last two times we went in a whole foods we realized we could get anything there cheaper elsewhere and walked out emptyhanded......not to mention I have to drive by no less than 3 other grocery chains to get there.

More expensive but least Fresh Market has quality items you can’t get anywhere else.....and a very nice bakery.

We have Sprouts in my area. Very fresh produce that is 20-30% cheaper than the big grocers. Although I was banned from one store for going maskless a couple of years ago, I have one I frequent further out when I'm in the neighborhood.

A little lefty, but not in-your-face about it.
