‘It’s In Everybody’s Interest’: Ron DeSantis Calls For Ukraine Cease-Fire

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called for a cease-fire Tuesday in the Russian war with Ukraine.

DeSantis claimed that the situation in Ukraine could get far bloodier if an agreement to end the violence between both sides is not met.

“You don’t want to end up in like a [Battle of] Verdun situation, where you just have mass casualties, mass expense and end up with a stalemate,” DeSantis said in an interview with Nikkei Asia. “It’s in everybody’s interest to try to get to a place where we can have a cease-fire.”

The Battle of Verdun was the longest battle of World War I. More than 300,000 were killed as a result of the battle.

DeSantis also added that American foreign policy needs to prioritize the Indo-Pacific, indicating that Europeans would have to take on more responsibility for their continent.

“If the Indo-Pacific is where most of the threats to us are, and that’s going to be our focus, then the Europeans are going have to do more,” DeSantis said.

“The Europeans really need to do more [on Ukraine]. I mean, this is their continent. The U.S. has provided security for them. And yes, Poland — there’s some that are doing stuff, and that should be appreciated. But Germany, they’re not doing anything.”

In March, DeSantis dismissed the Russian war in Ukraine as a “territorial dispute.”

“We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland,” DeSantis wrote.

The EU is gearing up to launch an offensive as soon as the ground dries. It’ll want to see how much land it can claw back from Russia.

Sure Jan, now tell us how that works.

(I have the same response for anyone, Trump included, who calls for a cease fire when they aren’t the warring party. It takes only one to start and argument. It takes two to conclude it.)

Meanwhile Trump is spouting off about GOP debates.

Oh. And insulting “DeSanctimonius”. Always attacking his Governor.

Ron doesn’t realize that the deep state wants war. Nice words Ron. I doubt you believe in them.

So another flip-flop by DeSantis on this issue?

This would indicate that focus group testing has shown a significant number of Republican voters want a cease-fire.

I agree the war needs to end and probably not with a total victory by either side. However, at the moment Ukraine is getting ready to launch its counter offensive and it’s only going to make sense to see how much territory they can regain before entering into a peace deal.
Everybody involved in the conflict knows this.

It’s in everybody’s interest

except the Ukrainians, of course

btw, any so-called "peace" would only last 1-2 years, before Russia attacks & invades yet again ... look at History, it's what they do

Trump called for a cease fire a few weeks ago. Now DeSantis follows Trump’s lead.

A truly unbelievable comment.

Trump called for a cease-fire in October.

DeSantis is flipping and flopping and trying to catch up.

“DeSantis claimed that the situation in Ukraine could get far bloodier if an agreement to end the violence between both sides is not met.”

Governor, that’s what make war detestable. The disagreement started in the late 1980’s that graduated to all out combat in 2014 and has escalated and expanded because the US, like other NATO countries, has been giving the Ukraine the tools to do so.

The US, like many other countries, has way too many “interests” in the Ukraine and don’t want to lose those so they try to help the Ukraine make enough problems so the Russians will accept their loses and pack up.

It can happen over time depending on how much the Russians are willing to lose and how long it will last until their people get tired of it. And willing to lose also means how much of the resources in the Ukraine are they willing to destroy that they are going after.

So DeSantis can make this call all he wants and when the echo dies down nothing is going to happen. It’s Russia’s decision, no one else. It took four to five years for our civil war to end and in many ways, it is still being fought today with the tearing down of statues and the attacks on people that shouldn’t happen based upon skin color, both ways.

And the power houses of that time, England, France, Germany Italy, and all the other militarily strong countries that had an interest in the US, had very little to do with the war ending until one side was hammered in submission. History has a way of repeating itself.

The Marxist DNC wants to hold everybody’s hand and sing Kumbaya only to totally embrace the military industrial complex so profits will be realized and they can cash in. They’re scumbags.
